After dark, Koh Chang is bare feet in the sand, live music drifting on the sea breeze, and fire flickering down on Lonely Beach. This guide walks the beach bars beach by beach, tells you straight which beach is for parties and which is for quiet, and gives you the honest truth about the low season, when a lot of places close.
Picture this: 9 pm on Lonely Beach, your feet still warm from sand that baked all day. A circle of people watches a fire-spinner trace loops to a reggae beat, the bar beside them sends up the smell of a fruit-spiked bucket and bursts of laughter, and one beach over, others sit in canvas chairs nursing a quiet beer, watching the waves in the dark. This is Koh Chang after sunset — both the loud and the still on one island.
Let's be straight up front — Koh Chang nightlife is mellow, not Phuket or Samui. No kilometre-long bar street, no clubs with famous DJs every night. The liveliest spot is Lonely Beach, with its party bars and fire shows; every other beach leans toward beach bars, live music and watching the sun go down. We take you through five beach-bar areas, ordered from the liveliest beach to the quietest, with one of the most important facts up top — in low season, May to October, many bars close. For what to eat on the island alongside a night out, read our Koh Chang food guide too.
Ordered from the liveliest beach to the quietest, early-to-bed one

This is the island's party hub — a small village behind the beach packed with cheap guesthouses and bars that run late into the night. The crowd is backpacker, the drinks are the cheapest on the island, and the centre is Soi 1, where bars face each other and travellers from everywhere pile in together.
The names that come up most: Ting Tong, the party bar widely called the wildest on the island, going late; Himmel across from it; Cancun Bar and 15 Palms down on the sand, known for fire shows most nights; and beach bars like Nature Rocks at Nature Beach Resort, about a 10-minute walk from the main bar cluster. (Names and opening hours shift with the season — check on the ground.)

If you want a sunset cocktail followed by live music, White Sand Beach is the most direct answer. It's the longest, most developed beach, with bars, restaurants and places to stay lined up the whole way, and it's the easiest to reach because it sits near the northern ferry arrival. The vibe is busy but not crazy.
The names that come up: Sabay Bar, the best-known beach bar here, with regular live music and a crowd that builds after sunset; Oodie's Place, where local musicians play rock and reggae; and a string of sand-side bars that set out canvas chairs and low tables so you can sit with your feet in the sand. (Bars change hands, so wander and see what's on.)

Kai Bae is the middle ground — enough beach bars and live music to have a good night, but a quieter, easier vibe than White Sand. It suits people who want something to do in the evening without the crowds. The beach has little islands just offshore, lovely in the evening light, and the Kai Bae viewpoint sits to the south, where people drive up for sunset before coming back to a bar.
The names that come up: Sabai Bar & Grill, known for its live music, and Fin, with Thai and Western food, cocktails and a band that plays a mix of styles. The bands here often run later than other beaches because people settle in for a long, easy night. (Check the band schedule and opening hours on the ground — they shift with the season.)

Bang Bao is an old fishing village with a wooden pier running out over the sea, lined with seafood restaurants, dive shops and little stores. At night it isn't a party — it's a place for a quiet drink, watching the boats come in and the lights ripple on the water. Plenty of people come for a seafood dinner out on the pier, then stay for a cold beer with the sea breeze.
This mood suits anyone who wants to end the evening calmly rather than loudly. The bars here tend to close much earlier than Lonely Beach, because it's an early-to-bed corner of the island. Walking to the end of the pier to see the small lighthouse at dusk is pretty too — a good, easy way to round off a quiet night.

If your ideal night is stargazing to the sound of the waves with a cold glass of wine, Klong Prao and the quiet beaches to the south are your place. Klong Prao is a long, calm beach with mid-range to upscale resorts; there are only a few seafront bars, but the setting is good, and most are resort bars or restaurants with tables out on the sand.
There's no party here and people turn in early, which makes it right for couples and families who want an easy drink, soft music and a comfortable walk back to the room. Some resorts light a beach bonfire or put on quiet music at the weekend — ask your hotel what's on and when. Plenty of people pick a beach like this as their base, then drive over to Lonely Beach only on the nights they feel like something louder.
