Seavana sits on Ao Suan Yai, the sunset-facing beach on Ko Mak. Around 22 villas and bungalows are each positioned so every room has a sea view from the bed — open the curtains in the morning and you're looking straight at the water. The pool edge meets the sea horizon, with coconut palms leaning over the water, and service scores 9.5 from guests. Part of the Koh Mak Resort group, which has long roots on the island.

The Emerald Cove has stood on the quieter southern end of Klong Prao Beach since 2004, originally under Amari and now rebranded as Dinso Resort & Villas in the IHG Vignette Collection. The 50-metre pool runs parallel to the beach, and because Klong Prao faces due west, the sun sets directly over the sea in front of the resort every evening. The curved 3-storey building gives almost every room a private balcony with either ocean or jungle hillside views, and post-renovation bathrooms earn repeated praise.

AWA Koh Chang opened in 2014 as a sister property to The Dewa. The image people recognise is the central pool that runs nearly 100 metres from the lobby all the way down to the sea, flanked by white walls cut with dark wood and stone. Kai Bae faces west, so the pool and beachfront both catch the full sunset. With 463 reviews it has the largest review base in this list, and The Spoon breakfast gets called better than expected for the price.

Centara Tropicana is the Ko Chang resort that families with children recommend most often. Set in a tropical garden on Klong Prao Beach, the 157 Thai wooden-cottage rooms surround a lagoon pool with a waterslide, a shallow kids' section, a bar in the water, and direct access to the beach in a few steps. Sea Breeze restaurant sits right on the waterfront for sunset dinners. Spa Cenvaree is in a garden sala. Rates start at ฿2,400 — strong value for a 4-star beachfront property.

The Dewa is the resort people recognise instantly from photos — a 700 sqm black-tile pool curving along the beachfront, with a central water feature and a swim-up bar. At sunset the surface reflects amber light in a way that guests photograph and carry home. The design is raw concrete mixed with teak and high thatched roofing — a Bali-influenced feel rarely found on Ko Chang. Some villas have private outdoor Jacuzzis. On Klong Prao's west-facing shore, the sun sets directly over the sea.

Sea View Resort opened in 1989 — one of Ko Chang's first resorts — spread across 25 rai of hillside at the southern tip of Kai Bae Beach. The detail people remember is the hillside funicular car connecting clifftop rooms to the beach, which becomes a favourite for travelling children. The Rainforest Spa, hidden in a grove of trees, won Best Luxury Spa in Thailand at the Haute Grandeur Global Excellence Awards 2021. The lower pool drops almost to the sand with an open Gulf of Thailand view.

Makathanee sits on Ao Kao, the west-facing beach on Ko Mak where the sun sets directly over the sea with Ko Chang as a silhouette on the horizon. Open since 2006, the resort added a renovated sea-view building in 2023 — floor-to-ceiling windows, modern fittings, a very different feel from the older wooden bungalows. Maka Thanee restaurant on the beachfront draws consistent praise for its pizza, which surprises guests on a small island. The resort has its own speedboat pier.

Koh Kood Cabana is one of Ko Kood's older properties, sitting on Ao Tapao Beach where the water is clear enough to see the sandy floor on a sunny day. The bungalows are plain wooden structures — no pool, no fancy fittings — but the beachfront position in the centre of the bay is where guests say it beats its neighbours. The score of 7.4 reflects the age of the buildings rather than the location or the fresh seafood restaurant. At roughly half the price of the resorts beside it, this is a straight trade: older rooms for prime beach access.
