Thailand 38–40°C · Taipei 18–25°C. April isn't Taiwan's peak, crowds are manageable, flights pricier but reasonable. Real 5-day plan + Thai-friendly tips below.

Short answer — yes, to escape the heat. Thailand hits 35–40°C while Taipei stays 18–25°C. Rain is light and April isn't Taiwan's peak (March = sakura, Oct–Nov = best weather). April is shoulder — fewer crowds, less inflated prices than March.
Cool weather · light rain · not peak crowds · azaleas at Yangmingshan · Beitou onsen pleasant — ideal heat-escape. Only downside: airfare. Book 6–8 months ahead.
30–50% above normal — book early to soften the blow
Pro tip: Book Aug–Oct 2025 for Songkran 2026 — LCC fares often drop to 11,000–13,000 THB. Avoid Apr 17–18 returns (Thai mass-return peak). Return Apr 16 or 19 to save thousands.

Mama tom-yum noodles, Thai milk tea bottles, dried mango with fish sauce, tom-yum chips — stocked at most 7-Elevens because Taiwan has many Thai workers. About double Thai prices (Mama NT$25) but a lifesaver after day 3.
Mama's Thai and Rangsit Thai are the two Thai-expat favourites in Taipei. Beef pad-kaprao NT$220 · tom-yum kung NT$280 · papaya salad NT$250. Pricier than home, but solid when you need bold Thai flavour on day 4–5.
Around Taipei Main Station exit Y (Q-Square underground) Thai workers gather on Sundays — grocery stores, restaurants, Isaan stalls. Some years there are small Songkran meetups — check Facebook "คนไทยในไต้หวัน" before your trip.
Taiwanese hot pot (火鍋) in 18°C April is bliss — opposite of Thailand's hot Songkran. Try Haidilao at 101 or Mala Yuanyang Ximending. Tom-yum broth available · free manicure at Haidilao. NT$600–900/person.
10–20% above normal — nowhere near Lunar New Year peaks
Up ~10%, still affordable · Star Hostel, Meander, Flip Flop — Main Station area, popular with Thai backpackers.
Up ~20% · Caesar Park, citizenM North Gate, Madison Taipei are best value. Book 2 months ahead to lock in NT$3,500 rates.
Mandarin Oriental, Regent Taipei, Shangri-La Far Eastern up 15–25% — honeymoon-worthy in cool 18°C air.
Book early — Aug–Oct prior year is the sweet spot. Pick a hotel near MRT.
