voco Chiayi is the newest internationally-branded hotel in the city, having opened in 2022–2023 under IHG's lifestyle-focused voco line. Everything is freshly installed — contemporary design, IHG service standards, and IHG One Rewards earning on every stay. For frequent IHG guests it's the clear Chiayi pick. The 450-review count reflects newness rather than quality issues; an 8.5 opening score is a positive signal. Main consideration: at NT$3,500+ it costs roughly double Orange Hotel Wenhua's 3-star rate with a nearly identical guest score.

Orange Hotel Wenhua sits directly opposite Wenhua Night Market on the fountain roundabout — Chiayi's most recognisable street landmark. Step out of the lobby and you're immediately in the middle of one of Taiwan's most atmospheric local markets. Score 8.8 matches Maison de Chine's luxury rating, and 1,850 reviews back it up. At NT$1,800 per night it costs 60% less than Maison de Chine with the same guest score. This is why it ranks 4th overall despite being a 3-star property: merit, not star count, drives this list.

No distinctive selling point beyond spaciousness — but spaciousness in itself is a real advantage for groups.

Light Hostel Chiayi (仲青行旅 嘉義館) holds the highest guest score of any property on this list — 9.5 out of 10 on Hostelworld. Dorm beds from NT$540 and private rooms from NT$600 also represent the best price-per-quality ratio for budget travellers.
