Where to Stay near Lingyin Temple & the Longjing Tea Hills, Hangzhou
6 Stays Among the Hills & Temples Real Guests Rate 9.3–9.7

If you'd rather not stay downtown by West Lake and instead wake up to hills, tea fields and temple bells, Hangzhou's west side around Lingyin Temple, Feilai Feng and the Longjing tea villages is your answer. We've picked 6 places genuinely in this zone — from the Four Seasons garden-villa resort by West Lake near Lingyin, to Amanfayun, the Aman in the old tea village that walks to the temple, to a small budget guesthouse right by it. All score 9.3–9.7/10 from real reviews, priced ¥350 (฿1,750) to ¥4,500+ (฿22,500+)/night. Honest first: this zone has far fewer hotels than the city — mostly resorts and guesthouses — and none have a Metro at the door; you take a taxi, bus or resort car to the lake. It's an escape base for resting, not a base for sightseeing in the city centre.

🍵 Picking a West-Side Stay Around Lingyin Temple & the Longjing Tea Hills

Hangzhou's west side — around Lingyin Temple (灵隐寺), Feilai Feng (飞来峰) and the Longjing tea villages (龙井) — is a different world from the lakefront downtown. This is hills, bamboo, tea fields and old temples, a base for anyone who wants to escape the bustle and sleep somewhere quiet in nature. Honest from the start: this zone has far fewer places to stay than the city — mostly luxury resorts and small guesthouses, not rows of hotels — and almost none have a Metro at the door; you take a taxi, bus or resort car to the lake (~20–30 min). So we've made this a deliberately honest short list of 6 — places genuinely in this zone that real guests rate 9.3/10 or above. We didn't pad it to 8 or 10 with downtown hotels that don't belong here. How we picked: (1) genuinely in the Lingyin/Feilai Feng/Longjing/west-shore zone; (2) a review score of 9.3+ from real guests; (3) enough reviews to read properly. We rank by how well each fits the 'wake up among the hills and temples' brief, blended with score and review volume — the garden-villa resort and the Aman that are truly in this zone lead, then we work down to the budget guesthouse by the temple that reviewers love just as much. Every score is from real Trip.com reviews, not a Wherebest assessment.

🚇
Getting around the Lingyin–Longjing zone: this zone has no Metro at the door — Lingyin Temple, Feilai Feng and the Longjing tea villages sit on the hills on West Lake's west side, reached mainly by taxi/resort car/bus · from the West Lake shore to Lingyin Temple is ~20–30 min by taxi or bus · the nearest Metro is Line 4 at Sandun (三墩) or Line 3, then a taxi/bus into the hills · Hangzhou East Railway Station (杭州东站) is on the east side of the city, ~30–40 min by taxi into the Lingyin zone · Xiaoshan Airport (HGH) is ~50–70 min by taxi to this zone (the furthest of the city's areas) · the upside of staying here is that you can walk into Lingyin Temple/Feilai Feng and the Longjing tea fields first thing in the morning before the crowds — an edge the city hotels can't offer · if you'd rather be on the lake or near a Metro, see our every-budget Hangzhou hotels or the China Travel Guide.

🌿 Jiangnan-style garden villas on the lake's west side⭐ 9.6/10 on Trip.com · ~706 reviews📍 Address on Lingyin Road, near the temple approach⛵ A private boat onto West Lake + spa + a quiet pool
📍 5 Lingyin Road, West Lake District, Hangzhou (on West Lake's west side, on Lingyin Road near the Lingyin Temple/Quyuan Garden approach · no Metro at the door · ~1.6 km to Lingyin Temple)

We open with the most luxurious stay on the west side — if you want to wake up to green gardens and hills rather than the city, the Four Seasons Hotel Hangzhou at West Lake is a Jiangnan-style garden-villa resort on the lake's west side, on Lingyin Road near the temple approach. It scores 9.6/10 on Trip.com from around 706 reviews. The draw is the water gardens, pavilions and villas built like an old Chinese mansion, with a private boat onto the lake, a spa and a quiet pool. Guests say it with one voice: it feels like an escape from the city, even though it's right by the lake — beautiful rooms and meticulous, top-tier service. The thing to know: it's pricey and there's no Metro at the door, so you'll taxi or take the shuttle to the lakefront downtown or up to the temple — this is a stay for resting or a honeymoon, not a base for sightseeing on foot.

💡 Tip: ask the resort to run you up to Lingyin Temple/the Longjing tea fields first thing before the crowds — it's much closer than the city hotels. Lake View rooms and villas cost a fair bit more than a garden-view room, worth it if your budget stretches and you're here to relax. And the West Lake boat at first light is the experience guests love most. Over Chinese holidays (early October / Chinese New Year) rooms fill fast and rates spike, so reserve 2–3 months ahead.
👍 Pros
 • ✓ Jiangnan-style garden villas on the lake's west side, the most luxurious and serene here
 • ✓ Score 9.6/10 on Trip.com — meticulous service guests agree on
 • ✓ Address on Lingyin Road, near the temple approach + a private boat onto the lake
 • ✓ Feels like an escape into nature, while still right by West Lake
👎 Things to note
 • ✗ Among the priciest here, ¥3,000–5,000+/night, higher again over Chinese holidays
 • ✗ No Metro at the door — taxi/shuttle
 • ✗ An escape stay, not a base for sightseeing in the city centre

🍵 A preserved ~14-hectare old tea village, stone paths, courtyard houses under the trees⭐ 9.3/10 on Trip.com · ~501 reviews⛩️ A ~0.75 km walk to Lingyin Temple/Feilai Feng — the closest to the temple of the luxury picks🧘 Aman Spa + pool + village eateries, ringed by Longjing tea fields
📍 22 Fayun Nong, Xihu Jiedao, West Lake District, Hangzhou (an old tea village by Lingyin Temple/Feilai Feng · no Metro, taxi/resort car only · ~0.75 km walk to Lingyin Temple)

This is the real 'sleep in the tea village by the temple' stay — Amanfayun is an Aman that restored an entire old tea village across about 14 hectares, beside Lingyin Temple and Feilai Feng, ringed by Longjing tea fields and bamboo, a walk of just ~0.75 km to the temple. It scores 9.3/10 on Trip.com from around 501 reviews. The draw is the feel of a genuine Chinese village — stone paths, quiet courtyard houses under the trees — with an Aman Spa, a pool and eateries dotted through the village. Guests say it gives a real ancient-village atmosphere, done the Aman way. The honest caveat: it's the priciest here, and some of the paths are open to the public (they're the route to the temples), so a few reviews note privacy and the expensive restaurants. There's no Metro, it's ~6 km from the lake — this is an escape into nature, not a base for sightseeing.

💡 Tip: you can walk from the resort to Lingyin Temple/Feilai Feng first thing before the crowds — an edge the city hotels don't have. Resort dining runs high, so plan to eat in town some evenings to balance it. Check the live rate across Trip.com/Agoda/Booking, as this is a hotel whose prices swing with the season.
👍 Pros
 • ✓ An Aman across a restored ~14-hectare old tea village — the most exclusive stay in the zone
 • ✓ Score 9.3/10 on Trip.com · a genuine ancient-village feel, done luxuriously
 • ✓ A ~0.75 km walk to Lingyin Temple/Feilai Feng — the closest of the luxury picks
 • ✓ Aman Spa + pool + village eateries, ringed by Longjing tea fields
👎 Things to note
 • ✗ The priciest here, ¥4,500+/night
 • ✗ Some paths are open to the public — a few reviews note privacy
 • ✗ No Metro, ~6 km from the lake — taxi/resort car only

📍 18 Yanggong Causeway, Xihu District, Hangzhou (on West Lake's west shore · the official state guesthouse for the G20/BRICS leaders · ~3.2 km to Lingyin Temple · no Metro at the door)

If you want lakefront luxury on the west shore that's quiet and hidden away — the West Lake State Guesthouse is a garden estate of about 360,000 m² on the lake's west shore at Yanggong Causeway, scoring 9.7/10 on Trip.com from over 6,795 real reviews — the highest score and the most reviews on this list. It served as the official guesthouse for the G20 and BRICS leaders, and locals call it 'the West Lake within West Lake' — a green estate tucked along the water, quieter than the busy shore. The draw is the private west-shore setting, the wide gardens, and a service and breakfast reviewers praise for their polish. The thing to know: it's on the lake's west side, ~3.2 km from Lingyin Temple (further than Amanfayun, which walks there) and there's no Metro at the door, so you taxi or take the bus — a lakeside escape base that reaches Lingyin/Longjing more easily than the east-shore hotels.

💡 Tip: a Lake View room is worth it for a view of the quiet side of the lake, and an early-morning walk along the causeway through the gardens before the crowds is the highlight here. From this west-shore spot, a taxi up to Lingyin Temple/the Longjing tea fields is shorter than from the east-shore hotels — ideal if you're set on the hills and tea country.
👍 Pros
 • ✓ A garden state guesthouse of ~360,000 m² on the lake's west shore, quiet and private
 • ✓ Score 9.7/10 · ~6,795 reviews — the highest score and most reviews here
 • ✓ A 'West Lake within West Lake' setting, closer to Lingyin/Longjing than the east shore
 • ✓ A breakfast and service guests praise for their polish
👎 Things to note
 • ✗ ~3.2 km to Lingyin Temple (further than Amanfayun, which walks there)
 • ✗ No Metro at the door — taxi/bus
 • ✗ ¥1,800–3,800+/night, peaking over Chinese holidays with rooms filling fast

📍 21 Zijingang Road, Xihu District, Hangzhou (inside Xixi National Wetland Park on the city's west side · ~10 min drive to Lingyin Temple · ~6.5 km from the lake · no Metro at the door)

If you want a spacious, quiet spa resort in west-side nature without going all the way up into the hills — Banyan Tree Hangzhou is a villa-suite resort inside Xixi National Wetland Park, with rooms from about 120 m², a ~10-minute drive to Lingyin Temple. It scores 9.5/10 on Trip.com from around 2,629 reviews (location 9.6, service 9.5). The draw is the big waterside villas, the renowned Banyan Tree Spa, a pool, and free access to Xixi Wetland, plus a photography service and early check-in. Guests praise the cleanliness, the breakfast and the quiet of the setting. The thing to know: some reviews say a few furnishings are starting to age and service can be inconsistent, and it's in Xixi ~6.5 km from the lake, towards the edge of town — an escape for resting or the spa that drives easily to Lingyin, not a base for sightseeing on foot.

💡 Tip: use the resort's Xixi Wetland access (normally a paid ticket) and take an early-morning boat to watch the birds across the marsh — a real highlight. Ask the resort to drive you up to Lingyin Temple rather than hailing an app. If you're travelling as a family, the two-bedroom villa is good value, and book directly well ahead over Chinese holidays.
👍 Pros
 • ✓ Spacious villa-suites inside Xixi Wetland, from ~120 m²
 • ✓ Score 9.5/10 on Trip.com · ~2,629 reviews (location 9.6)
 • ✓ ~10 min drive to Lingyin Temple + free Xixi Wetland access
 • ✓ The renowned Banyan Tree Spa + pool, quiet for a resort-style rest or spa break
👎 Things to note
 • ✗ Some reviews note a few aging furnishings and inconsistent service
 • ✗ In Xixi ~6.5 km from the lake, towards the edge of town
 • ✗ ¥2,200–3,600+/night, higher again over Chinese holidays

📍 Near the Lingyin Temple entrance, Xihu District, Hangzhou (a ~5-min walk to Lingyin Temple gate, ~3 min to the Caishen Temple cable car · no Metro, taxi/bus into the city)

A midscale pick that walks to the temple without the Aman price — Miyin Chanheyuan is a Zen-themed guesthouse just a ~5-minute walk to the Lingyin Temple gate, scoring 9.5/10 on Trip.com from around 953 real reviews. The draw is the cultural atmosphere — there are tea ceremonies, calligraphy, DIY bracelet-making and afternoon tea with refreshments. Guests praise the prettily decorated, thoughtful, clean rooms, how easy it is to walk to the temple and cable car, and the value for a spot this close. The honest caveat: it's a guesthouse, so some reviews note the soundproofing isn't great, the breakfast selection is limited and some fittings are older (shower water can swing hot and cold) — and the area gets congested with ride-apps unreliable. But if you want to walk into the temple early at a price you can reach, this is a strong fit.

💡 Tip: the real edge here is walking into Lingyin Temple/Feilai Feng first thing before the crowds — make the most of being this close. Try the guesthouse's tea ceremony or calligraphy, experiences the city hotels don't offer. And because the area gets congested with unreliable ride-apps, plan your trips in and out ahead or use the public buses.
👍 Pros
 • ✓ A ~5-min walk to Lingyin Temple gate — close to the temple at a reachable price
 • ✓ Score 9.5/10 · ~953 reviews — a Zen-themed guesthouse reviewers love
 • ✓ Cultural activities — tea ceremonies/calligraphy/DIY bracelets + free parking
 • ✓ Prettily decorated, thoughtful rooms guests agree on
👎 Things to note
 • ✗ It's a guesthouse — some reviews note weak soundproofing, a limited breakfast
 • ✗ Some fittings are older, shower water can swing hot and cold
 • ✗ The area by the temple gets congested with unreliable ride-apps · no Metro

📍 Near the Lingyin Temple zone, Xihu District, Hangzhou (~0.63 km to Lingyin Temple · no Metro, taxi/bus into the city)

We close with the most budget-friendly pick — the bottom of the list on price, not on score. Chuyou Hostel is a guesthouse in the Lingyin Temple zone with both dorm beds and private rooms, ~0.63 km from the temple, scoring 9.7/10 on Trip.com from around 483 real reviews. What makes it a good fit for budget travellers is being in west-side nature, walkable into the temple zone, at a price that's genuinely friendly for staying in the Lingyin area, which is otherwise mostly expensive resorts. Guests praise the cleanliness, the spot near the temple and the quiet of the area. The thing to know: it's a guesthouse, so amenities are basic, and this zone has no Metro — you take a taxi or bus to the lakefront city. It suits anyone set on the temples, hills and tea fields, not someone who wants to be on the lake downtown.

💡 Tip: if you want the lowest price but still some privacy, a private room is only low-hundreds of yuan, and use the location's edge — walk into Lingyin Temple/Feilai Feng at first light before the crowds. Plan your trips in and out of the city (taxi/bus) ahead, since there's no Metro.
👍 Pros
 • ✓ A budget guesthouse in the Lingyin Temple zone, ~0.63 km to the temple — the cheapest here
 • ✓ Score 9.7/10 · ~483 reviews — high for the budget tier
 • ✓ Both dorm beds and private rooms, walk into the temple zone
 • ✓ In west-side nature, quiet and friendly on price
👎 Things to note
 • ✗ It's a guesthouse — amenities are basic
 • ✗ No Metro — taxi/bus to the lakefront city
 • ✗ Suits temple/hill travellers, not anyone wanting to be on the lake

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ — common questions about staying near Lingyin Temple & the Longjing tea hills

❓ Why does this list have only 6 stays, not 8–10 like the others?

Because the Lingyin–Feilai Feng–Longjing zone on Hangzhou's west side genuinely has far fewer places to stay than the city — mostly luxury resorts and small guesthouses, not rows of hotels like the lakefront downtown. So we kept it an honest short list — only places genuinely in this zone that real guests rate 9.3/10 or above (Four Seasons, Amanfayun, West Lake State Guesthouse, Banyan Tree, Miyin Chanheyuan, Chuyou Hostel). We didn't pad it to 8–10 with downtown hotels that aren't in this zone. For an every-budget list in the city, see our every-budget Hangzhou hotels.

❓ How do I get into the city and up to the temple from this zone? Is there a Metro?

This zone has no Metro at the door — Lingyin Temple, Feilai Feng and the Longjing tea villages sit on the hills on the west side, reached mainly by taxi/resort car/bus. From the West Lake shore to Lingyin Temple is ~20–30 min; the nearest Metro is Line 4 (Sandun) or Line 3, then a taxi/bus. The upside is that you can walk into Lingyin Temple/Feilai Feng and the Longjing tea fields first thing before the crowds, which the city hotels can't offer — but if you want Metro convenience or to be on the lake, this zone may not be your answer.

❓ I want to walk to Lingyin Temple — which should I choose?

The ones that genuinely walk to the temple here are Amanfayun (a ~0.75 km walk · an Aman in the tea village · ¥4,500+), Miyin Chanheyuan (a ~5-min walk / ~0.7 km · a mid-budget Zen-themed guesthouse · ¥600+) and Chuyou Hostel (~0.63 km · a budget guesthouse · ¥350+). The Four Seasons (~1.6 km) and West Lake State Guesthouse (~3.2 km) are on the lake's west shore and need a short drive up to the temple, while Banyan Tree (~10 min drive) is in Xixi Wetland.

❓ What budget do I need to stay here? Are there non-luxury options?

There's a full range from budget to top luxury — the cheapest is Chuyou Hostel from ¥350 (฿1,750) with dorm beds and private rooms · mid-budget is Miyin Chanheyuan from ¥600 (฿3,000), a Zen-themed guesthouse that walks to the temple · stepping up to West Lake State Guesthouse at ¥1,800 (฿9,000) and Banyan Tree at ¥2,200 (฿11,000) · and at the top, Four Seasons at ¥3,000 (฿15,000) and Amanfayun at ¥4,500 (฿22,500) — choose by whether you just want to walk to the temple or want a full resort too.

❓ Who is this zone for — is it worth staying here?

It's worth it if you're set on visiting Lingyin Temple, Feilai Feng and the Longjing tea fields and want to sleep somewhere quiet in nature — you can walk into the temple at first light before the crowds and wake up to hills and tea fields rather than the city. It suits resters, honeymooners or anyone escaping the bustle. It's not worth it if it's your first time in Hangzhou and you want to stroll West Lake every day, be near a Metro, shop and eat in the centre, or you're only here 1–2 nights on a fast trip — getting in and out of this zone takes time and relies on taxis/buses. In that case, staying on the lake or in Wulin is more convenient.
