Crowne Plaza Window of Canton — A Giant Window-Shaped Tower on the Pearl River, 50 sqm Rooms, Canton Tower Views
Picture a high-rise with a giant square "window" punched clean through the middle of the tower, its edges lit up at night until it becomes a new Guangzhou landmark — that's Crowne Plaza Guangzhou Window of Canton by IHG (广州之窗皇冠假日酒店), a five-star hotel that's brand new for 2025, set inside the large Window of Canton (广州之窗) commercial complex in Lijiao, Haizhu District (海珠区), on the south bank of the Pearl River (珠江). The draw is the fresh design and the space: even the standard rooms start at a generous 50 sqm, with floor-to-ceiling glass framing the Pearl River and Canton Tower (广州塔) from the higher floors. The score is 9.5/10 from around 1,475 real guest reviews, and guests keep saying the same thing — it's a spotless new hotel with big rooms, lovely views and real value next to the luxury towers across the river.
Start with the thing that makes people look twice — the building itself. The hotel occupies a tower in the Window of Canton (广州之窗) complex, designed with a vast square "window" cut straight through the middle of the structure; at night the window frame and the patterned facade lights glow over the Pearl River. The interiors run with a nautical theme — sails, waves, navigation lights — for a look that feels modern but warm. Plenty of reviewers say that the moment you walk into the lobby you can tell this is a purpose-built new hotel, not a refurbished old block.
The rooms get the most praise, because the hotel opened in 2025 and everything is brand new, clean and free of that musty older-hotel smell. Crowne Plaza's "WorkLife" rooms start at a roomy 50 sqm — far bigger than the typical city hotel — with a proper work desk for anyone here on business, a comfortable bed, and the headline feature: floor-to-ceiling glass. River-facing rooms look out over the Pearl River with Canton Tower standing across the water; the night views come up again and again in reviews. Families love the Kids Theme rooms (60 sqm), and the river-view suites stretch to a huge 98–110 sqm.
One guest summed it up: "Very new hotel, spotlessly clean, rooms much bigger than expected. The floor-to-ceiling windows give you a gorgeous night view of the Pearl River and Canton Tower. The staff are lovely, the indoor pool is good and the breakfast is decent. For Guangzhou, getting a five-star room this spacious at this price is great value."
The facilities are a proper five-star set: a year-round heated indoor pool, sauna, spa and gym, all on the 5th floor — handy when you're here for a long working stretch, or travelling with kids who want a swim. For dining there are two restaurants — a Cantonese restaurant, 彩丰楼, and an all-day international venue, 雲聚, with seafood, sushi and steak — plus a café and a bar/lounge. Guests in higher room categories and top-tier IHG One Rewards members get the executive lounge. Parking and in-room Wi-Fi are free, and because it's an IHG hotel, foreign passports check in without fuss and there are staff who can manage in English.
Now the gripes, passed on honestly from real guest reviews, because they're real and worth knowing first. The main one is location: the hotel is in the Lijiao area of Haizhu, a newer zone on the south side of the Pearl River, a fair way from the city centre. To reach the old town — Shamian Island (沙面), Beijing Road (北京路) — or the Zhujiang New Town skyscraper district, you're looking at a 20–35 minute metro or taxi ride, and the Canton Tower view is the "across-the-river, in the distance" kind rather than right at your feet. The second: Lijiao station (Line 3) is about a 700 m–1.1 km walk (roughly 10 minutes), not at the door. And the third: as a just-opened hotel, some reviews note the service isn't perfectly dialled in everywhere yet — the odd bathroom-cleaning miss or a hiccup in staff coordination — which is normal for a place still finding its feet.
Rates start at around ~¥550 (฿2,750) per night for a 50 sqm room, with a typical range of roughly ฿2,750–6,000 depending on season and room type — a brand-new, spacious five-star for noticeably less than the luxury towers over in Zhujiang New Town. But during the Canton Fair (广交会, late April and late October) and China's Golden Week (October 1–7), prices climb and rooms fill fast, since the hotel is a ~10-minute drive from the fair complex and runs a shuttle during fair dates. If your dates are flexible, avoiding the peaks gets you a far better price — and if you're driving, the free parking is a real plus.
The honest summary, friend to friend: Crowne Plaza Window of Canton is the best fit for anyone who wants a brand-new five-star with big rooms and lovely river views for better value than the new-district towers — especially if you're driving, here on business, attending the fair, or travelling with kids who'll use the pool. If you're fine with a 20–30 minute metro ride into the centre, the value here is excellent. But if you'd rather wander the old town straight from the door, start your morning with yum cha and dim sum on a walking street, or be in the thick of the skyscraper district, compare it first against White Swan Hotel on Shamian Island or Shangri-La Guangzhou in Pazhou, both in our list.
