~950 km of coastline · 9–14 days · Pacific cliffs, 400-year-old cities, zero traffic lights for miles — the complete guide to Taiwan's most iconic adventure on two wheels

Why 環島 has become a defining challenge for cyclists from Taiwan and around the world
環島 (huán dǎo) — literally "circle the island" — is a signposted bicycle route called Taiwan Cycling Route No.1 (環島1號線) that traces the entire coastline of Taiwan. The circuit covers roughly 950–1,000 km, taking most cyclists 9 to 14 days to complete. Unlike other famous cycling routes, this one passes through real cities, old temples, rice-field plains, and one of Asia's most dramatic ocean highways.
The 2006 Taiwanese film Island Etude — about a deaf student cycling the island alone — transformed 環島 from an athletic feat into a national rite of passage. High-school graduates do it after exams. Burned-out office workers do it to find perspective. And every year, thousands of foreign cyclists add Taiwan to their bucket list specifically for this ride.
From a one-day lake loop to a 14-day coast-to-coast pilgrimage, Taiwan has a cycling distance for every rider
