Villa Maroc Resort — Wake Up in Marrakech on the Gulf of Thailand at Pak Nam Pran

If you have ever scrolled past a Thai beach resort with pointed Moroccan arches, terracotta-pink walls, and mosaic-tiled columns sitting right on the sand, it was probably Villa Maroc Resort at Pak Nam Pran in Pranburi. The whole property transplants the look of Marrakech and the Moroccan riad onto the Gulf of Thailand — a fountain courtyard at the centre, pierced brass lanterns, mustard-yellow walls set against the sky. Guests describe the same thing again and again: you walk in and feel like you have left Thailand for another continent, then you turn around and the waves are still breaking on the beach in front of you.

Our Full Review

Villa Maroc sits on Pak Nam Pran beach in Pranburi District, about a 30-minute drive from central Hua Hin and roughly 3 hours from Bangkok. What sets it apart from every other beach resort in Prachuap Khiri Khan is Moroccan architecture carried through the entire property, not just a few accents — terracotta-pink and mustard-yellow riad buildings, pointed archways, columns wrapped in geometric mosaic tiles, and a central fountain courtyard straight out of the old medina in Marrakech. It is a small boutique resort of around 20 rooms and villas, which keeps the atmosphere quiet and private rather than the bustle of a large hotel.

Rooms come in several categories, each named after a Moroccan spice. Deluxe Courtyard rooms wrap around the fountain courtyard — ground-floor rooms have an outdoor sitting area, while the upper level adds a private balcony. Step up to the Deluxe Seascape Jacuzzi and you get a small private Jacuzzi on a balcony facing the sea. The room with the best outlook is the Deluxe Panoramic Seaview, angled straight out to the water with a wide balcony. Every room is dressed with pierced brass lanterns, Moroccan textiles, and richly coloured tiles, and several guests note the decorating is the real thing rather than paint made to look the part.

"You open the door in the morning to arches and a fountain, walk a few steps, and you're at an infinity pool that meets the sea. Coffee in hand, watching the waves all morning — it feels like a trip abroad without ever boarding a plane."

Another centrepiece here is the oceanfront infinity pool, where the edge of the water lines up with the horizon and the beach beyond. Sunrise over the Gulf directly in front of the pool, and the pink-orange light on the water in the evening, are the two moments guests photograph most. For food, Casablanca Restaurant serves Middle Eastern, European and Thai dishes in the Moroccan courtyard — worth trying a tagine or couscous that is hard to find anywhere else nearby. Be aware that there are not many restaurants immediately around the resort, so most guests eat on site for the bulk of their stay.

For spa fans, there is Sherazade Hammam & Spa offering a genuine Arabic Hammam — a steam-and-scrub ritual in a mosaic-tiled room, the kind of treatment that is genuinely rare in Thailand. The beach out front is the quiet stretch of Pak Nam Pran, with fine sand, sun loungers and shaded seating under the palms. Beyond the main rooms, there is also a set of beachfront villas with private infinity pools for guests who want maximum privacy and the sea framed from their own pool.

Guest scores are strong — 4.5/5 from 41 reviews on Trip.com, with the property ranking among the top accommodations in Pranburi on TripAdvisor. The recurring praise is the one-of-a-kind Moroccan design, the quiet beachfront setting, and the privacy. The honest feedback from lower-rated reviews flags that some buildings and rooms show their age, with maintenance in places not quite pristine, that food and drink prices on site run high, and that a few reviewers found the pool water warmer than expected on some days. These are real limitations worth knowing before booking.

Villa Maroc Resort

On pricing, Deluxe rooms start around ฿4,800/night on weekdays, while seaview rooms with a Jacuzzi and the beachfront pool villas rise to ฿9,000–18,000 depending on category and season. Long weekends and the cool season (November–February) fill up fast because the resort is small, so book at least 3–4 weeks ahead. Going midweek gets you both better rates and the full quiet, since guest numbers drop noticeably.

The bottom line: Villa Maroc works best for couples or travellers who want a beach stay with a clear theme, great photos, and a feel unlike any standard resort. If you like the Moroccan atmosphere, want to escape somewhere quiet by the sand, and don't mind that the buildings carry some age, it delivers an experience you won't find elsewhere in Prachuap Khiri Khan. If you want a brand-new resort at every turn, or shops and restaurants within walking distance, Pak Nam Pran is not the location for that.

Honest Take
🎯
This place is a great fit if...
Villa Maroc is a boutique resort that sells a fully committed Moroccan-by-the-sea theme rather than brand-new polish or large-hotel convenience. The architecture and atmosphere are something no other property in Prachuap Khiri Khan matches, but the trade-off is buildings that carry some age and a location away from shops and restaurants.
💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you want a full sea view — choose Deluxe Panoramic Seaview or Seascape Jacuzzi facing the water → the Deluxe Courtyard rooms are better value but look onto the fountain courtyard rather than directly at the sea
  • 💡If room freshness matters to you — the resort has been open for years and some buildings show wear → read recent reviews and pick a recently refreshed room, or ask the resort before booking which building is in the best condition
  • 💡If you want maximum privacy — a beachfront pool villa with a private infinity pool (from around ฿14,000) is worth it for a special occasion → on a tighter budget, a Deluxe room still gets you the shared oceanfront pool and the Hammam

Insider Tips
🌅
Catch sunrise at the infinity pool
The beach faces east over the Gulf · the sun comes up out of the sea directly in front of the pool around 6 am — the best photo moment and before anyone else is up
💆
Book the Hammam in advance
Sherazade Hammam has limited slots · reserve a time at check-in to get the window you want, especially on busy weekends
🍴
Try a tagine at Casablanca
Moroccan dishes like tagine and couscous are hard to find around Pranburi · have at least one meal that matches the resort theme
🚗
Stock up before you arrive
Convenience stores aren't right next to the resort at Pak Nam Pran · grab water, snacks and essentials in town or Hua Hin before driving in

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Villa Maroc Resort located and how do I get there?
It is at 165/3 Moo 3, Pak Nam Pran, Pranburi District, Prachuap Khiri Khan, right on Pak Nam Pran beach. It's about a 30-minute drive from central Hua Hin and roughly 3 hours from Bangkok. There is no convenient public transport around the resort, so driving your own car or renting one is recommended.
What does Villa Maroc cost per night?
Deluxe Courtyard rooms start from approximately ฿4,800/night on weekdays. Seaview rooms with a Jacuzzi and beachfront pool villas run ฿9,000–18,000 depending on type and season. The cool season and long weekends fill quickly — always compare Agoda, Booking and Trip.com before booking.
Why is Villa Maroc Moroccan-themed?
The entire resort is designed to bring the look of Marrakech and the Moroccan riad to the Gulf of Thailand — terracotta-pink and mustard-yellow buildings, pointed arches, mosaic tiles, a central fountain courtyard, and pierced brass lanterns. It is one of the most fully committed Moroccan-themed properties in Thailand.
Who is Villa Maroc best suited for?
Best for couples and travellers who want a strongly themed beach stay with great photos and a feel unlike a standard resort. If you like Moroccan atmosphere and quiet beachfront privacy, it is great value. It is less suited to those who want a brand-new resort at every turn or shops within walking distance.
What is there to do around Villa Maroc?
Closest are the Pak Nam Pran fishing pier and Pranburi Forest Park mangroves (5–15 min drive). It's a 30-minute drive to Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park, with Phraya Nakhon Cave and viewpoints, and to Hua Hin town with its night market and restaurants. Allow half a day to a full day to explore the area.
How far in advance should I book, and can I cancel?
As a small resort, rooms fill quickly. 2–3 weeks ahead is usually enough for normal weekdays, but for the cool season (November–February), long weekends or holidays, book 4–6 weeks in advance. All major platforms offer a free cancellation option — choose it if your dates aren't locked in yet.
