The Sarojin — Kilometres of Empty White Sand and Candlelit Dinners on the Andaman

Khao Lak was never built for the nightlife crowd the way Patong or Samui were — and that is exactly why people choose it. If one hotel here gets talked about more than any other, it's The Sarojin: a small Luxury Boutique 5-star with just 56 residences tucked into 10 acres of tropical garden, opening onto a quiet white-sand beach you can walk for a kilometre without passing anyone. What guests keep coming back to in their reviews is service that feels like being welcomed into a family and candlelit dinners on the sand at sunset at Edge — the kind of setting that is genuinely hard to find in Thailand.

Our Full Review

Start with what sets The Sarojin apart from the larger resorts over in Phuket — it is small and quiet by design. Just 56 residences spread across eight low-rise buildings in 10 acres of garden, with no towers and no crowded lobby. The beach out front is an unbroken stretch of white sand running roughly 11 kilometres, and an early-morning walk takes you past nothing but the occasional little local shack. Guests who have done the busier beaches first tend to say the same thing: here, it actually feels like a private beach.

Every room here is called a Residence. The entry level is the 95 sqm Garden Residence — nearly double a standard 5-star room — with a private outdoor sala and a spa-style bathroom built around a freestanding tub. Step up to the 120 sqm Pool Residence and you get a private plunge pool and sun terrace. Larger groups have the 215 sqm Two Bedroom Pool Residence and the 150 sqm Suite with Jacuzzi Pool. Rooms are finished in warm timber floors with floor-to-ceiling glass opening onto the garden — pared back, but wide and comfortable from the moment you walk in.

Dining is one of the things guests praise most. Breakfast here is not a rushed buffet — it's à la carte, unlimited, and runs with no fixed window from 7am all the way to 6pm. Sleep in and have breakfast in the afternoon if you like. There are two main restaurants: Ficus, set under a big old tree beside the lily pond, and Edge, on the beach, known for its Asian cooking and wine list. Beyond that, the kitchen will set up private dinners on the sand, in the garden, or beside a candlelit waterfall on request.

Candlelit dinner on the white-sand beach at sunset on the Andaman Sea

"Dinner on the sand, candles around the table, the sky changing colour behind the islands and the waves right beside you — honestly one of those nights you don't want to end."

Pathways Spa is another part guests return to. The treatment salas have open-air thatched roofs and sit scattered through the garden, so during a massage you hear leaves and the sea somewhere in the distance. The resort's Imagine programme covers a range of activities too — kayaking, cycling out to the surrounding villages, or boat trips to dive the Similan and Surin islands not far offshore. Khao Lak is one of the closest jumping-off points for the Similans anywhere on the coast.

One thing to know before you book — The Sarojin only accepts guests aged 10 and over. If you're travelling as a family with young children, this is not the place and you'll need to look elsewhere. The flip side is that this is exactly why the atmosphere is so unusually calm, which makes it well suited to couples or anyone who genuinely wants to switch off. The other caveat is that Khao Lak itself is quiet: after dark there isn't much to do beyond the resort, so if you want bars and a buzzing street, this may not be your fit.

The Sarojin

Review scores run very high across every platform. Trip.com sits at 9.7/10 from 48 reviews, with cleanliness and location both at 9.7 and service at 9.7. On Tripadvisor it ranks #1 of six resorts in the Khuk Khak area and holds a Travelers' Choice Best of the Best 2025 award. The most consistent praise is for staff who anticipate what you need and remember the details. The main limitation guests mention is the remote location — every trip out has to be planned around a car.

On price, the Garden Residence starts around ฿9,500/night in low season (the rainy months, May–October), rising clearly in high season (November–April) when the sea is clearest and rain is rare. Phuket International Airport is about an hour away by road (roughly 90 km) — arrange a transfer through the hotel or a private car from arrivals. For high season or long weekends, book at least 1–2 months ahead, as rooms are limited and fill fast. The short version: if you want a quiet beach, warm service, and no small children around the pool, The Sarojin is one of the best options in Khao Lak.

Honest Take
🎯
This place is a great fit if...
The Sarojin is a small Luxury Boutique resort that trades on quiet, privacy, and warm family-style service rather than flash. It suits couples or anyone wanting to disconnect for a few nights — but because it only accepts guests aged 10 and over, families with young children will need to look elsewhere.
💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you're travelling with young children — The Sarojin only accepts guests aged 10 and over, so it won't work → look at family resorts elsewhere in Khao Lak or Phuket instead
  • 💡If you want lively nightlife — Khao Lak is very quiet, with almost no bars or street life after dark → if you want both beach and buzz, Patong or Samui deliver more
  • 💡If you want a private pool — the Garden Residence at ฿9,500 has an outdoor sala but no pool → step up to the 120 sqm Pool Residence with its own plunge pool, worth it for a longer stay

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is The Sarojin and how do I get there from the airport?
The Sarojin is on Khuk Khak Beach in Khao Lak, Takua Pa district, Phang Nga province, on the Andaman Sea. It's about one hour from Phuket International Airport by road (roughly 90 km). Arrange a transfer through the hotel, or take a private car or taxi from arrivals.
How much does The Sarojin cost per night?
The 95 sqm Garden Residence starts at approximately ฿9,500/night in low season (the rainy months, May–October). High season (November–April) rates run noticeably higher. Always compare Agoda, Booking and Trip.com before committing.
Does The Sarojin allow children — is it good for families?
The Sarojin only accepts guests aged 10 and over. Families with younger children cannot stay. This policy is the reason the atmosphere is so unusually calm, which makes it better suited to couples and adult groups who want a genuine rest than to families with small kids.
What are the restaurants and breakfast like at The Sarojin?
There are two main restaurants — Ficus in the garden by the lily pond, and Edge on the beach, known for its Asian menu and wine list. Breakfast is à la carte, unlimited, and served 07:00–18:00 with no fixed window. Private candlelit dinners on the sand can be arranged on request.
When is the best time to visit Khao Lak?
The best window is high season, November–April, when the sea is clear, swell is low and rain is rare — and it's the season when boats run out to the Similan and Surin islands. The rainy season (May–October) is cheaper and quieter, but expect swell and intermittent rain.
Is The Sarojin a good base for diving the Similan Islands?
Yes. Khao Lak is one of the closest points to the Similan and Surin islands. Thap Lamu Pier, where the boats depart, is about 25–30 minutes from the resort. The hotel can arrange a diving day trip, though it's seasonal (the national park is open roughly November–April).
