Orange Hotel Ximen — bright and cheerful in the heart of Ximending

Orange Hotel Ximen is a 3-star hotel that's "the brightest in Ximending" — both in its bold orange design and its energetic atmosphere. It's just 1 minute's walk from MRT Ximen Exit 1, and the 1961A bus to Jiufen stops right outside the hotel.

Our Full Review

Orange Hotel opened in 2013 with the idea that "a hotel should give more than expected". Its 60 rooms are clean and modern, furnished with well-chosen pieces, and room entry uses a QR code via the LINE app — an innovation every guest mentions, with no key card to lose. Rooms measure approximately 16–22 sqm with a queen or twin bed, a properly sized desk, wardrobe and USB-C ports on both sides of the bed — no adapter needed.

"No key card to carry — you enter your room with a QR code on the LINE app — and there's free ice cream all day. This is next level!"

Hotel lobby

The free perks Orange Hotel offers far exceed expectations at this price: free ice cream in the lobby, drinks, fruit and snacks in the basement lounge all day, a breakfast voucher for the nearby Mos Burger or Louisa Cafe, and free washing machines in the hotel. Multiple guests say these perks are the reason they chose Orange over similarly priced hotels in the area.

Location is the biggest strength — right on the street by MRT Exit 1, with the 1961A bus to Jiufen stopping directly outside the hotel, a Family Mart in the lane behind, a 3-minute walk to Red House Theater, and 5 minutes to the busiest part of Ximending. Because it sits on the quieter side of Ximending, it's not noisy at night. Longshan Temple is a 12-minute walk; Taipei Main Station is 1 MRT stop.

Guest room

Orange Hotel works particularly well for Thai and Asian travellers. Staff speak English and Mandarin, and the LINE QR-code check-in system eliminates queuing. With 1,322 reviews on Booking.com averaging 8.8, value-for-money and location score the highest — and a strong proportion of guests are repeat visitors.

Hotel interior

Rooms are compact in typical Taipei style but cleverly laid out so they don't feel cramped. En-suite bathrooms are clean with good water pressure. Lower-rated reviews mainly mention rooms that feel too small for 26–28 inch suitcases and occasional slow Wi-Fi during peak hours.

Booking tip: the Superior Room at NT$3,100 is noticeably more spacious than the Standard and some rooms have Ximending street views. Book at least 3–4 weeks ahead during Japanese Golden Week (April–May), when Orange Hotel is especially popular with Japanese travellers.

Hotel lobby

In short, Orange Hotel Ximen is best for travellers who want a top location, lots of free perks and a bright atmosphere at a reasonable price. If you like a hotel that feels like "you got more than you paid for" and enjoy modern tech conveniences — this is the best answer in Ximending.

The 1961A bus to Jiufen departs right outside the hotel with no transfer needed — a genuine advantage over nearby hotels for guests planning a day trip to Jiufen. If booking a Superior room, ask for floor 4 or above for clearer views and less street-level noise.

💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you have several large suitcases — a room fits just 2 people with 2 bags → choose a larger room type, or leave some bags at the front desk
  • 💡If you want a breakfast buffet — the hotel gives an external-restaurant voucher with fairly limited options → there are plenty of breakfast spots around Ximen, easy to find
  • 💡If you're a light sleeper — lower-floor rooms catch street noise → ask for a higher-floor room at check-in
