Madison Taipei Hotel — a quiet boutique in the heart of Da'an

Madison Taipei Hotel is a boutique 5-star that "chooses calm over flash". It sits on a leafy stretch of Dunhua South Road in Da'an, and with just 124 rooms the service reaches every guest. Part of the Tribute Portfolio by Marriott, it earns a strong 9.1 from travellers for its spacious rooms, acclaimed breakfast, and free evening happy hour.

Our Full Review

Madison Taipei opened in April 2014 and deliberately sets itself apart from Taipei's big 5-star hotels — it has just 124 rooms and suites on a tree-lined stretch of Dunhua South Road. This isn't a skyscraper-and-mall location but a genuine Taipei residential neighbourhood, so the whole hotel feels private and quiet, more like "a friend's elegant home" than a chain property. Since 2023 it has joined the Tribute Portfolio by Marriott, so guests collecting Marriott Bonvoy points earn benefits here too.

Guests describe it: "The room was far bigger than the usual Taipei hotel and incredibly quiet. Staff knew their names from day one, and breakfast was cooked fresh to order, not a buffet sitting under heat lamps — you genuinely feel looked after."

A boutique-styled guest room at Madison Taipei Hotel

What guests praise most is room size. In a city where hotel rooms are usually tight, Madison's rooms feel unexpectedly generous. Entry-level Madison and Oasis rooms are dressed in warm tones with wood and quality fabrics, soft beds, and well-designed bathrooms — many with a separate wet/dry layout and a bathtub. The 53 m² Madison Skyline Suite on the 13th floor adds a separate sitting area and a wide city view.

Breakfast is another repeatedly mentioned highlight — not a vast buffet, but a well-curated spread blending homestyle Taiwanese dishes with Western options cooked fresh to order, with eggs and hot dishes made at the station. The ingredient quality is good and the service attentive; many guests describe it as a warm, unhurried meal compared with the rush at big hotels. In the evening there's a free happy hour with drinks and snacks in the lounge around 5–6 pm, which becomes a favourite moment for many guests.

The hotel lobby and shared spaces

Location needs to be understood clearly — Madison is not right beside Taipei 101 or directly on the MRT, but on the Da'an / Xinyi border. It's about a 5-minute walk to MRT Xinyi Anhe (Red Line) and MRT Da'an (a Red/Brown Line interchange), and from there Taipei 101 is just one stop away. The streets around the hotel are full of local restaurants, cafes and shops in the Tonghua area, giving you a side of Taipei most tourists rarely see — but if a full Taipei 101 view from your room is the goal, this isn't the most direct choice.

The hotel restaurant and bar area

Inside, the hotel has the GUSTOSO Italian restaurant, popular with locals too, and URBAN 331 Bistro & Whisky Bar for dinner and late drinks. The fitness room is on the 3rd floor, open 6 am–10 pm. The service guests mention most is the staff's attentiveness — remembering names, recommending neighbourhood eateries, and sorting small requests quickly. It's the kind of boutique-scale care that many larger hotels simply can't deliver.

In short, Madison Taipei is best for couples, travellers who value quiet, and anyone who wants attentive boutique service at a sensible 5-star price. If you value a spacious room, a calm atmosphere and good food more than a location next to the sights, this is one of the warmest choices in Taipei's Da'an / Xinyi area.

Honest Take
🎯
This place is a great fit if...
If you're a couple or traveller who wants a quiet boutique 5-star with spacious rooms, attentive service and good food, set in a real Taipei neighbourhood — Madison Taipei is a warm, good-value choice, best for restful trips, honeymoons, and anyone who values atmosphere over a location next to the sights.
💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you want a full Taipei 101 view — Madison isn't next to the tower and city-view rooms are limited → if the view is your priority, ask for a high-floor Madison Skyline Suite, or consider a hotel directly opposite Taipei 101
  • 💡If you need to be right on the MRT — the hotel is about a 5-minute walk from the stations through a residential area → allow a little extra time, or take a taxi when it rains or you have heavy luggage
  • 💡If you expect the full facilities of a large hotel — Madison is a 124-room boutique with no pool or full-service spa → if you need a pool or spa, choose a large 5-star, but if you value close personal service, the small scale is a plus
