Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort — Villas on a White-Sand Spit with the Sea on Both Sides
If you want a Koh Mook stay where you wake up and the sand is a few steps away, Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort is the name Trang travellers bring up most. The resort sits on a white-sand spit on the island's eastern side, with sea on both sides and thatched villas spread along the beach left and right. What guests repeat over and over is the quiet beach out front and how clear the water is, plus a location where a longtail ride to the Emerald Cave takes barely fifteen minutes — this kind of setting is genuinely hard to find at this price.
Koh Mook Sivalai opened in 2004 and had a major renovation in 2023. The resort occupies a sand spit reaching into the sea, with a beach on each side of the spit that you can walk between in a couple of minutes. There are 60 villas in a Thai style with thatched roofs and local timber, split between front-row beachfront villas and ones set further back in the garden. Some beachfront villas open their sliding doors straight onto the sand — no walkway in between — and that detail is what guests come back to mention most.
Rooms run from the 44 sqm Deluxe Villa up to the Sivalai Suite Villa at 98 sqm, the largest on the property. The villas renovated in 2023 are bright, with white-painted timber walls, a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a minibar and tea and coffee facilities. Bathrooms separate wet and dry areas with a walk-in shower. Worth knowing: some older villas still carry the original dark-timber look and a mosquito net over the bed, which a lot of guests actually prefer for the genuine island-resort feel.
"Opened the curtains in the morning to clear water and limestone islands in the distance, sat on the terrace with a coffee — didn't want to go anywhere all day."
The shared areas centre on two saltwater pools set among the coconut palms facing the sea. The restaurant, Tuay Talay, is an open thatched pavilion right by the beach serving both Thai and Western dishes, open from early until 10:30 pm. Breakfast is a buffet with a wide spread of Thai and Western options, and many reviews call it one of the better breakfasts of their Trang trip. There's also a spa with a massage room, a free gym, and kayaks to paddle along the shore.
The biggest draw here is the location close to the Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot), just 3.5 km away — a longtail from the beach gets you there in a little over ten minutes. The cave requires a short swim through a dark coastal tunnel that opens into a hidden lagoon in the middle of the island, the water a real emerald green. The resort runs a tour desk for snorkelling trips and island-hopping to spots like Koh Kradan, Koh Cheuk and Koh Hin Ngam. You can also walk to the island village with its restaurants and shops in about ten to fifteen minutes.
The Trip.com score sits at 9.6/10 from 74 reviews, with location (9.7) and service (9.6) rated highest — friendly, genuinely helpful staff is the point guests praise most. The honest complaints flag sandflies and mosquitoes around dusk, so bring your own repellent. In low season, breakfast is sometimes not a full buffet, and a few reviews note the pools weren't always consistently maintained — better to know in advance than be surprised.
On getting there, build in a little patience, because Koh Mook is reachable only by boat. The simplest route is to fly into Trang Airport (about an hour by road to the pier), then take a boat from Pak Meng Pier across to the island in roughly 15–40 minutes depending on the boat. The resort offers airport and pier transfers if you arrange ahead. On the island itself, getting around means a songthaew or a rented motorbike (around ฿200/day) — budget a little for that part too.
The bottom line: Koh Mook Sivalai works best for travellers who want a quiet beachfront resort on a still-uncrowded island at a reachable price. Rooms start around ฿4,500/night and you get a near-private beach most of the day plus a location near the Emerald Cave you won't find elsewhere. If you want to open the door straight onto the sea, choose a front-row Deluxe Beachfront Villa. For larger groups or anyone who wants space, the 98 sqm Sivalai Suite is the best-value pick.
