Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort — Villas on a White-Sand Spit with the Sea on Both Sides

If you want a Koh Mook stay where you wake up and the sand is a few steps away, Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort is the name Trang travellers bring up most. The resort sits on a white-sand spit on the island's eastern side, with sea on both sides and thatched villas spread along the beach left and right. What guests repeat over and over is the quiet beach out front and how clear the water is, plus a location where a longtail ride to the Emerald Cave takes barely fifteen minutes — this kind of setting is genuinely hard to find at this price.

Our Full Review

Koh Mook Sivalai opened in 2004 and had a major renovation in 2023. The resort occupies a sand spit reaching into the sea, with a beach on each side of the spit that you can walk between in a couple of minutes. There are 60 villas in a Thai style with thatched roofs and local timber, split between front-row beachfront villas and ones set further back in the garden. Some beachfront villas open their sliding doors straight onto the sand — no walkway in between — and that detail is what guests come back to mention most.

Rooms run from the 44 sqm Deluxe Villa up to the Sivalai Suite Villa at 98 sqm, the largest on the property. The villas renovated in 2023 are bright, with white-painted timber walls, a flat-screen TV, air conditioning, a minibar and tea and coffee facilities. Bathrooms separate wet and dry areas with a walk-in shower. Worth knowing: some older villas still carry the original dark-timber look and a mosquito net over the bed, which a lot of guests actually prefer for the genuine island-resort feel.

Villa interior with sliding doors open onto white sand and limestone islands at sea

"Opened the curtains in the morning to clear water and limestone islands in the distance, sat on the terrace with a coffee — didn't want to go anywhere all day."

Two saltwater pools among coconut palms by the sea

The shared areas centre on two saltwater pools set among the coconut palms facing the sea. The restaurant, Tuay Talay, is an open thatched pavilion right by the beach serving both Thai and Western dishes, open from early until 10:30 pm. Breakfast is a buffet with a wide spread of Thai and Western options, and many reviews call it one of the better breakfasts of their Trang trip. There's also a spa with a massage room, a free gym, and kayaks to paddle along the shore.

The biggest draw here is the location close to the Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot), just 3.5 km away — a longtail from the beach gets you there in a little over ten minutes. The cave requires a short swim through a dark coastal tunnel that opens into a hidden lagoon in the middle of the island, the water a real emerald green. The resort runs a tour desk for snorkelling trips and island-hopping to spots like Koh Kradan, Koh Cheuk and Koh Hin Ngam. You can also walk to the island village with its restaurants and shops in about ten to fifteen minutes.

Beachfront villa terrace with sun lounger, sand and the Andaman Sea

The Trip.com score sits at 9.6/10 from 74 reviews, with location (9.7) and service (9.6) rated highest — friendly, genuinely helpful staff is the point guests praise most. The honest complaints flag sandflies and mosquitoes around dusk, so bring your own repellent. In low season, breakfast is sometimes not a full buffet, and a few reviews note the pools weren't always consistently maintained — better to know in advance than be surprised.

Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort

On getting there, build in a little patience, because Koh Mook is reachable only by boat. The simplest route is to fly into Trang Airport (about an hour by road to the pier), then take a boat from Pak Meng Pier across to the island in roughly 15–40 minutes depending on the boat. The resort offers airport and pier transfers if you arrange ahead. On the island itself, getting around means a songthaew or a rented motorbike (around ฿200/day) — budget a little for that part too.

The bottom line: Koh Mook Sivalai works best for travellers who want a quiet beachfront resort on a still-uncrowded island at a reachable price. Rooms start around ฿4,500/night and you get a near-private beach most of the day plus a location near the Emerald Cave you won't find elsewhere. If you want to open the door straight onto the sea, choose a front-row Deluxe Beachfront Villa. For larger groups or anyone who wants space, the 98 sqm Sivalai Suite is the best-value pick.

Honest Take
🎯
This place is a great fit if...
Koh Mook Sivalai is an island beachfront resort that delivers a quiet-island atmosphere and a location near the Emerald Cave at a price well below famous islands like Phi Phi or Lanta. The rooms aren't ultra-luxe, but a beachfront villa that opens onto the sand and a near-private beach most of the day are hard to find on this budget.
💡 Check before you book
These 3 points matter to some travellers — make sure they fit your trip (we have added the workaround).
  • 💡If you want to wake up to the sea — request a front-row Deluxe Beachfront Villa when booking → garden villas still reach the beach on foot but don't get a direct sea view from the terrace
  • 💡If sandflies and mosquitoes worry you — bring your own repellent and anti-itch cream, especially at dusk → this is normal for an island beach resort, not specific to this property
  • 💡If you plan to visit the Emerald Cave — book through the resort tour desk in advance and go on the morning round before the big group boats arrive → by mid-morning it gets crowded and you queue to swim through the tunnel

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort and how do I get there?
The resort is on a white-sand spit on the eastern side of Koh Mook, Kantang District, Trang Province. Koh Mook is reachable only by boat — the simplest route is to fly into Trang Airport, drive about an hour to Pak Meng Pier, then take a boat across to the island in 15–40 minutes. The resort offers airport and pier transfers if you arrange them in advance.
What does Koh Mook Sivalai Beach Resort cost per night?
A garden-side Deluxe Villa starts from approximately ฿4,500/night. Front-row beachfront villas start around ฿6,500, and the 98 sqm Sivalai Suite runs higher. High season (November–April) rates climb and rooms fill fast — always compare Agoda, Booking and Trip.com before committing.
Is the resort close to the Emerald Cave, and how do you get there?
Very close. The Emerald Cave (Tham Morakot) is just 3.5 km from the resort — a longtail from the beach reaches it in a little over ten minutes. You swim through a short dark tunnel into a hidden emerald-green lagoon in the middle of the island. There's a 200 baht national park fee per person, and you can book the trip through the resort tour desk.
Who is Koh Mook Sivalai best suited for?
Best for couples and families who want a quiet beachfront resort on a calm island at a price well below famous islands like Phi Phi or Lanta. Anyone who loves a near-private beach, clear water and doesn't mind a simpler level of luxury will be happy here. Less suited to travellers who want lively nightlife on the doorstep.
How far in advance should I book, and can I cancel?
2–3 weeks ahead is enough for normal periods. For high season (November–April) or long holidays, book 6–8 weeks in advance, as beachfront villas sell out quickly. All major platforms offer a free cancellation option — choose it if your dates aren't locked in yet.
When is the best time to visit Koh Mook?
The best window is November to April, when the sea is calm, the water clear and the skies open. That's when boats to the Emerald Cave and surrounding islands all run. The rainy season (May–October) is much cheaper but the sea gets rough, some boats stop on certain days, and parts of the resort may close for maintenance — check with the property before booking.
