Botanica Khao Yai — An Infinity Pool That Runs Into the Hills, and Rooms That Open Onto the Mountains
Regular Khao Yai visitors tend to know Botanica Khao Yai by Scenical from a single image — the upper infinity pool whose edge seems to join the mountain range behind it. The resort is a five-storey, tropical-modern structure of bare concrete and clean lines, designed to echo the cliff at its back. What guests bring up again and again is that nearly every room has a large balcony facing the hills, plus the Tempo restaurant, whose breakfast draws the most praise. One honest note up front: the resort has been open for several years, and some areas are starting to show wear — more on that below.
Botanica is a five-storey concrete building shaped so its lines follow the cliff behind it. Curved walkways and terracing keep a structure this size from feeling at odds with the surrounding forest. There are 116 rooms in total, including 69 suites — Botanica Studio, Botanica Suite, two-bedroom layouts, and Family Suites. Almost every room has a large balcony facing the mountains, and 17 rooms come with a private plunge pool. The detail guests return to in their reviews is the balcony and the view, not the room size.
The Botanica Suite, around 63 sqm, has a separate living room and bedroom, and the feature people photograph most is the outdoor bathtub on the balcony, where you soak looking out at the valley and the resort gardens. Khao Yai mornings run cool — open the glass door to the balcony and you get the smell of the forest and birdsong, which guests describe as the part most worth the trip. The Studio is more compact but still gets the same balcony and mountain view.
"Opened the curtains in the morning to a full window of mountains, then soaked in the balcony tub in the cool air — that alone was worth the room."
The headline feature is the upper-level infinity pool, where the edge looks out onto the full sweep of the Khao Yai range. Early in the morning the still water mirrors the hills and sky until you can barely make out where the rim ends. A second pool and a children's pool sit on the lower level, and a tree-house bar juts out over the lower pool — a good spot for an evening drink. Weekends get busy and the pool fills fast, so if you want it to yourself, get in before 9 am.
The Tempo restaurant, finished in timber screens and stone, seats around 99 and serves Thai and international dishes. Breakfast is a buffet with plenty of variety and an eggs-cooked-to-order station, and most guests rate the morning meal well. Beyond the restaurant there's a poolside bar, a shared lounge, a library, a sauna, and a gym — enough to keep you on-site all day, which is clearly the intent.
The location is a real advantage for a Khao Yai trip — the National Park gate is just 1.5 km away, a few minutes' drive to the trailheads, which is ideal if you've come to hike, see waterfalls, or spot wildlife at dawn. Pak Chong town is about 7 km out. Among the popular stops, Primo Piazza is roughly a 10-minute drive, GranMonte vineyard about 20 minutes, and Farm Chokchai around 25 km. From Bangkok it's about a 3-hour drive, which makes it a weekend pick.
Now the part worth saying plainly — the 7.9/10 score from 17 Trip.com reviews (service 8.2, location 8.1) is good but not stellar. The main reason is that the resort has been open for years and is starting to show its age. Some reviews mention worn corridors and rooms, cleanliness in places that doesn't quite match the rate, and a wish for more renovation. It's worth knowing before you book so your expectations line up — you come here for the view and the setting, not for a brand-new room.
The bottom line: Botanica Khao Yai works best for travellers who want an affordable mountain-view resort as close to Khao Yai National Park as it gets, for a weekend. The draw is the infinity pool and the mountain-facing balconies, hard to match at this price. The trade-off is a building that is no longer new. If that's acceptable, it's good value — and if your budget stretches and you want full privacy, book one of the rooms with a private plunge pool; it's the better experience.
