Kanchanaburi has no BTS Skytrain or MRT, but it does have a historic railway — the Death Railway still runs, with State Railway trains from Bangkok (Thonburi) → Kanchanaburi → Tham Krasae → Nam Tok, about 2.5–3 hours. The stretch where the train crawls along the curved wooden viaduct at Tham Krasae is a journey people make to remember the Allied POWs and conscripted Asian labourers who died building the line in 1942–43 — ride it with respect. You can also reach town by minivan or bus from Bangkok's Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) or Mo Chit, about 2–3 hours, or drive in roughly 2 hours on Highway 323. The rafts here sit in two zones: Sai Yok, on the Khwae Noi (northwest, about 50–100 km out, near Sai Yok Falls and Hellfire Pass; several rafts are reached by longtail boat) and Si Sawat, on Srinakarin Lake (north, about 65–100 km, near Erawan Falls, with over-water villas on the reservoir).
