If you're coming with the whole household, or a big group of friends, and want a pool of your own, Dhevan Dara is one of the first names Hua Hin locals point to. The resort spaces each villa apart on the Hin Lek Fai hillside, and every villa has its own private pool, ranging from a 1-bedroom for couples up to 4–5 bedroom villas that sleep 8–12 — a size that's genuinely hard to find in Hua Hin. Each villa has its own kitchen, so you can cook and settle in for a longer stay. The trade-off is that it sits inland, a 15–25 minute drive from the beach.

If you want a villa with its own pool but don't want to drive out of town, BTC sits right in the middle of Hua Hin. The name is short for Baan Talay Chine — 'China Beach House' — and it's furnished with antique Chinese doors, windows and furniture. It's a small resort with six pool villas, from 1 to 3 bedrooms, each with its own private pool in the garden. The real advantage is the location: it's a 2–3 minute walk to Hua Hin beach and a stroll to Naresdamri Road and the night market, right by Klai Kang Won Palace. The cheaper studios share the resort pool, so for a private pool you'll want one of the villas.

If you want a private pool and to walk onto the beach in the same place, Kundala is one of the few Hua Hin pool villas that's genuinely beachfront. It's a small boutique resort of about 15 rooms on Khao Takiab beach. The 1 Bedroom Pool Suite and Sky Pool Suite have a private pool in the room — some are warm onsen pools — and villas 1 and 2, closest to the sand, look straight out over the Gulf. It scores 9.2 from 221 reviews, with guests repeatedly praising the private beach and the breakfast. To be straight: the cheaper Deluxe rooms have no in-room pool, and the villas sit fairly close together, so there's less privacy between them than a whole-villa rental.

Coming as a big group and want the whole villa with a pool of your own — Thiva Pool Villa is the kind of place Hua Hin party groups go for. It's a standalone 4-bedroom villa in the Avenue 88 project on Soi Hua Hin 88, sleeping 8–10. The draw is the private 4×10-metre pool with a water slide the kids can ride all day, a poolside deck for barbecues, and a jacuzzi tub in the master bedroom. There's a full European kitchen so you can self-cater, and parking for two cars. It's on Soi 88, about 3.5 km from the beach, so you'll need a car — but it's near Hin Lek Fai hill and not far into town.

If you want a whole villa with a private pool that you can also walk to the beach from, RIM is a hard-to-find option in Khao Takiab. It's a standalone two-storey villa, 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms, managed by RoomQuest. The draw is the private saltwater pool in the front courtyard plus a hot tub, and it's a 100-metre walk to Khao Takiab beach, with the Khao Takiab monkey temple about 800 metres away. There's a full kitchen and private parking, and it sleeps 6–8. It sits in a local neighbourhood, so there are restaurants and food stalls in the Khao Takiab village within walking distance.

A modern whole-villa rental for a big family or a group that wants to bring the dog along — Dani Villa has it all covered. It's a standalone single-storey villa, white and modern, with 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in the Nong Kae–Khao Tao area. The draw is the private saltwater pool in the central courtyard, with a hot tub, a barbecue area and a full kitchen with a dishwasher. What pet owners love is that it's pet-friendly, which many villas aren't. It's about 5–10 minutes by car from Hua Hin beach, near the quieter Khao Tao beach. As a whole-villa rental it's fully private — and it does need a car.
