Kanchanaburi has no BTS/MRT, but it does have a railway — the historic Death Railway still runs (State Railway: Bangkok Thonburi / Bangkok Noi → Kanchanaburi → Tham Krasae → Nam Tok, about 2.5–3 hours), and the stretch where the train crosses the curving Tham Krasae wooden viaduct along the cliff is a scenic ride in its own right; the line was built at great human cost by POWs and labourers in the Second World War, and is best ridden with that in mind. From Bangkok you can also take a minivan or bus from the Southern Bus Terminal (Sai Tai Mai) or Mo Chit, about 2–3 hours, or drive (~2 hours via Highway 323). Around town you get about by foot, songthaew, a rented motorbike, a tuk-tuk or a hired car.
