The draw is the location: about 15 minutes' drive from the Monsoon Valley vineyard, and close to Wat Huay Mongkol with its giant monk statue — a natural base for a vineyard-and-hill-view day. There are around 20 individually styled rooms, some with a balcony looking out over the hills and fields, plus an outdoor pool, a kids' pool, a steam room and breakfast. Be honest: it's a small hotel, not a big resort, so facilities are limited — but you get quiet, hill views and a spot near the vineyard you won't find from the coast.

Palm Hills is a 27-hole course on the rises inland between Hua Hin and Cha-Am, open since 1992, close to Hua Hin airport and the underpass. The course's appeal is its rolling rises and distant hill-and-sea views, with green fees cheaper than several of the marquee courses, and golfers rate the wide fairways as easy to play for all levels. The stay is a simple 3-star hotel within the same development as the course, useful as a budget base for rounds.
