⛺ Why go glamping in Kanchanaburi?
Kanchanaburi has forest, rivers and a lake behind its dams, which makes it one of Thailand's best regions for glamping — sleeping close to nature but with air-conditioning, an en-suite bathroom and a proper bed, so you don't pitch a tent or share a bathroom. The difference from an ordinary hotel is that your room is a safari-style canvas tent or a steel-framed dome in the forest, you open the door in the morning to mist, mountains or the river, and the evening is a campfire and dinner outdoors. This article gathers 6 stays that are genuine tents or domes — from a clear dome by the River Kwai and a clear bubble with a private hot tub to a hilltop tent looking out over Srinakarin Lake. Every one has real guest reviews, prices compared across 3 sites, and direct booking links. Almost all sit outside town, down a long road, so a car helps, and they're a different set from Hintok River Camp, which we cover in our main Kanchanaburi hotels article.
🚇
Kanchanaburi has no BTS/MRT, but it does have a historic railway — the Death Railway still runs (State Railway: Bangkok Thonburi → Kanchanaburi → Tham Krasae → Nam Tok, about 2.5–3 hours), and the stretch where the train edges along the wooden cliffside viaduct at Tham Krasae is a journey people make to remember the Allied POWs and conscripted labourers who died building the line in 1942–43; ride it with respect. You can also arrive by minivan or bus from Bangkok (Southern Bus Terminal / Sai Tai Mai or Mo Chit), about 2–3 hours, or drive (~2 hours via Highway 323). The glamping sites here are spread across several zones: Ko Samrong · in-town riverside (closest to the centre) · Nong Ya · near the Bridge over the River Kwai (a 15-minute drive to the Bridge and the war cemetery) · Sai Yok · Khwae Noi riverside (north-west, ~50–100 km, near Sai Yok Falls and Hellfire Pass) · Si Sawat · Srinakarin Dam–Erawan (~65 km north, near Erawan Falls, on the ridges above the lake) · the waterfalls and parks are far apart and most camps have no public transport to them, so you really need a car or an organised tour, with extra time for the winding mountain roads up to Si Sawat and Sai Yok.

📍 239 Moo 2, Ko Samrong, Mueang, Kanchanaburi
If you want to try a glamping dome without a long drive, The Campster is the first name people reach for — it sits at Ko Samrong on the River Kwai, the closest to town in this list, about 2 hours from Bangkok. The headline room is the 49 sqm Glamping Dome, a steel-framed dome under canvas with a clear front wall, so you can look out at the river from the bed, with air-conditioning and an en-suite bathroom. Beyond the domes there are bell tents, yurt tents and riverfront campervans to choose from. The draw is the free kayaks on the river, the bicycles, and a campfire with marshmallow toasting every night; reviewers call it a good family pick with attentive staff and good food. TripAdvisor scores it 4.8/5 on a still-small set of reviews.
💡 Tip: For a full river view book the Riverfront Villa with Dome rather than a garden-zone dome. The tents and domes don't come with a full set of toiletries, so pack your own, and you'll need your own car — there's nothing within walking distance.
👍 Pros
- ✓ Clear dome with a river view from the bed, air-con and en-suite
- ✓ Closest to town in this list, about 2 hours from Bangkok
- ✓ Free kayaks, bicycles, a pool and a nightly campfire
- ✓ Good for families with activities for kids; attentive staff
👎 Things to note
- ✗ Some maintenance lags — broken tent bathroom doors, cupboards
- ✗ No full toiletries provided · need a car, nothing within walking distance

📍 Moo 3, Tha Sao, Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi
If you want to sleep in a clear dome with the stars overhead all night, The Three Bubble Houses is the one reviewers call a true switch-off. It's a small glamping stay on the Khwae Noi in Sai Yok, and the standout room is a clear bubble dome set on a deck by the river, with a private hot tub beside it — pull back the curtain and you're looking straight out at the water and the sky from the bed. Every room has an en-suite with a soaking tub and air-conditioning, so it's not a raw tent. Beyond the riverside bubble there are garden bubbles and a tent to choose from. It's about a 10-minute drive to Sai Yok Noi Waterfall, a workable base for the Sai Yok side. Guests single out the riverside view at sunset and the friendly staff.
💡 Tip: Book the Bubble River House by the water well ahead — there are only a few and they go fast. A clear dome can heat up under the midday sun, so run the air-con before you settle in, and start the morning on the riverside deck watching the mist before you head out.
👍 Pros
- ✓ Clear bubble dome — look straight out at the stars and the river
- ✓ Private hot tub by the river; en-suite bathroom and air-con
- ✓ Deck over the Khwae Noi, lovely at sunset
- ✓ ~10 min drive to Sai Yok Noi Waterfall, a useful base
👎 Things to note
- ✗ Priciest in this list, few rooms, sells out fast
- ✗ Clear dome heats up by day · riverside forest means insects · need a car

📍 110 Moo 3, Tha Kradan, Si Sawat, Kanchanaburi
If you want to wake up in a tent to a wide lake view, Hilltop Erawan Camp is the name glamping fans are starting to mention. It's a newer camp on a hillside in Si Sawat, above Srinakarin Dam, 7 km from Erawan Falls and 5 km from the dam. The safari tents sit on raised decks along the ridge, facing out over Srinakarin Lake and the mountains, with air-conditioning, a smart TV, a fridge, a microwave and a bathroom — not a raw tent. Families can take a 74–109 sqm lake-view house instead, and there's a pitch-your-own camping ground for the purists. What guests mention most is the mookata (Thai BBQ) you can order and have at your camp.
💡 Tip: The road up to Si Sawat is winding, so fuel up and buy snacks before you climb. Book a tent along the ridge for the full lake view, and check whether meals are included in your package when you book.
👍 Pros
- ✓ Safari tents on a ridge with a wide Srinakarin Lake view
- ✓ Tents with air-con, smart TV, fridge and en-suite bathroom
- ✓ 7 km from Erawan Falls — a base for the northern side
- ✓ Lake-view houses for families, plus mookata to your camp
👎 Things to note
- ✗ Winding mountain road, far from town — a car and careful driving
- ✗ Newer camp, some service still settling · breezy and cool at night on the hill

📍 18/3 Moo 3, Nong Ya, Mueang, Kanchanaburi
If you want to try glamping without the long drive out to Sai Yok or Si Sawat, Khao Poon Camping is the highest-scoring and easiest to reach. It's in the Nong Ya area near town, a 15-minute drive to the Bridge over the River Kwai, and close to the Chong Kai war cemetery and Wat Tham Khao Pun. There are steel-framed canvas domes (Glamping Dome) and bell-shaped canvas tents (Bell Tent), all with air-conditioning and an en-suite bathroom, and some are Villa Tents with a soaking tub. The dome interiors are clean and bright, with air-con, a TV and a clear panel onto the garden. It scores 9.2 on Agoda from 245 reviews, the highest here, with an on-site restaurant and campfires allowed — a good fit if you want the glamping feel but still easy access into town.
💡 Tip: For a room with a soaking tub pick the Glamping Villa Tent rather than a plain Bell Tent. Domes and tents heat up in strong midday sun, so run the air-con ahead, and being near town it's ideal for a single night before or after seeing the Bridge and the war museums.
👍 Pros
- ✓ Agoda 9.2 from 245 reviews — the highest in this list
- ✓ Both domes and canvas tents, with air-con and en-suite bathrooms
- ✓ Near town, a 15-minute drive to the Bridge over the River Kwai
- ✓ Close to the Chong Kai cemetery and Wat Tham Khao Pun · campfires allowed
👎 Things to note
- ✗ Not on the river — the view is garden and hills, not water
- ✗ Domes and tents heat up under strong midday sun · some insects by the forest

📍 538 Moo 7, Sai Yok, Sai Yok, Kanchanaburi
If you want a dome or tent on a hillside on the Sai Yok side, near the Death Railway route, Heaven Hill Camping is a camp reviewers praise for the views and the privacy. It's in the Ban Thung Na area of Sai Yok, about 2.7 km from Hellfire Pass and 4 km from Sai Yok Yai Waterfall. There are garden-view domes, mountain-view domes and canvas tents, all on raised decks along the slope, spaced well apart so they feel private, each with air-conditioning, an en-suite bathroom with separate wet and dry areas, and mosquito netting. The talking points are the pool that looks out at the mountains and a campfire buffet dinner included with the stay — a handy base for the Sai Yok history and waterfalls.
💡 Tip: Pick the Dome Mountain View for the full mountain outlook, and check whether the package includes the campfire dinner and breakfast when you book. It's up on the Sai Yok hills, so you'll need a car — allow driving time and grab food on the way up.
👍 Pros
- ✓ Both domes and tents with air-con and split wet/dry en-suite
- ✓ Tents well spaced for privacy, with mountain views
- ✓ Pool with a mountain view · campfire buffet dinner included
- ✓ 2.7 km from Hellfire Pass and near Sai Yok Yai Waterfall

If you want an air-conditioned canvas tent on the Khwae Noi, BaanRai KhunYa is a small camp reviewers like for the view and the quiet. It's in Sai Yok, about 4 km from Hellfire Pass. The standout room is an A-frame canvas tent with air-conditioning, set on a wooden platform with a full set of furniture, and there's a Hanging Tent that reaches out over the River Kwai, with a balcony for watching the water and the mountains. Beyond the tents there are mountain-view chalets too. The talking points are an outdoor hot spring (extra charge) for a soak after a day out, and free bicycles to ride around — a good base for the Sai Yok side and the waterfalls.
💡 Tip: For a river view choose the Hanging Tent out over the water rather than a garden tent. Tents heat up by day, so run the air-con before settling in, and being in Sai Yok you'll need a car — there's nothing within walking distance.
👍 Pros

📌 Note: All prices are approximate and may change by date and season — always check the live rate and compare 3 sites before booking · November–February is the best season: cool and dry, the most comfortable time to sleep in a tent, with genuinely cold nights up on the hills and in the forest; it's busy with Bangkok visitors and rooms sell out, so book ahead · March–May is very hot — tents and domes get hot by midday, so run the air-con before you settle in, and the waterfalls run lower · June–October is the rainy, green season, when Erawan, Sai Yok and Huay Mae Khamin falls are at their fullest, but park trails get muddy and slippery (leeches), and heavy rain can bring localised flash flooding upriver — check the forecast before booking a Sai Yok or Si Sawat camp · most glamping sites sit outside town up winding mountain roads, so a car or an organised tour is best · Kanchanaburi has no BTS/MRT but does have the Death Railway (Thonburi–Nam Tok, ~2.5–3 hr, over the Tham Krasae viaduct) — ride it with respect for those who died · Article by Wherebest.com
