For a Hua Hin resort that's genuinely quiet and private for two, Let's Sea is usually the first name, because it only takes guests aged 12 and up — so there are no kids racing round the pool. It has just 40 duplex suites lined around a 120-metre lagoon you can step straight into from your room. The one honeymooners go for is the Moondeck Suite, with a private rooftop deck and an open-air jacuzzi tub for stargazing. The resort is on the Khao Takiab beach, about 450 m from Khao Takiab beach itself, and a 10-minute walk from Tamarind and Cicada markets.

The Yana is a 5-star beachfront resort on the Khao Takiab side, laid out as a run of villas stepping down to a private beach. The draw for couples is the pool villas, each with its own private pool, while the Rooftop Villa adds a deck with a daybed for watching the sun drop into the Gulf. At the centre is a beachfront infinity pool whose edge runs into the sea. The Khao Takiab temple and the night markets are within walking distance, but the beach here is far quieter than central Hua Hin's. Recently refurbished, with staff who draw consistent praise for being warm and easygoing.

Drive the Nong Kae–Suan Son beach road and the burnt-orange, arched building you pass is Marrakesh. The whole resort is built as Moroccan architecture — brass lanterns, mosaic tile, keyhole arches and a lagoon pool set among palms — which gives it an atmosphere unlike anything else in Hua Hin. The room couples go for is a sea-view suite with a balcony you can watch the sunset from. It's on the beach, near Khao Takiab beach and Vana Nava water park. Worth knowing honestly: a few rooms have drawn complaints about a musty smell, so ask to see the room or pick a renovated one at check-in.

Anantasila is a beachfront boutique resort on the Khao Takiab side that's won a Travelers' Choice award and ranks near the top of the Nong Kae area on Tripadvisor. It has a soft private beach you can swim from, and a wide spread of rooms — from sea-view rooms and a Bridal Suite for honeymooners to pool villas with a private pool. What couples like is the beachfront restaurant, The Beach, which can lay on a private dinner right on the sand, and the seafront garden at sunset. The Khao Takiab temple and markets are walkable, and the beach is quieter than central Hua Hin.

The Rock is a beachfront boutique resort on the Khao Takiab side that's recently been renovated. The heart of it is an infinity pool whose edge runs into the Gulf, with a view of Khao Takiab hill, and the upper room categories are jacuzzi pool villas with their own private pool (the 64 sqm Zen up to the 105 sqm Qualia). The rooms were done by a designer who leaned into privacy for couples. It's on the beach, a walk from the Khao Takiab seafood market. Recent reviews praise the leafy grounds, clean rooms and a spotless pool.

Baan Laksasubha is a beachfront boutique resort right in central Hua Hin, on one of the best strips of beach in town. It's built around a Mediterranean villa belonging to relatives of the Thai royal family, with cottages dotted through tropical gardens and a beachside infinity pool plus a restaurant that lays on candlelit dinners on the sand. Its advantage is the central location — a 10-minute walk to the train station, the night markets, restaurants and the night market strip — so couples get a private beach and the old town in one. Travelling-as-a-couple scores run as high as 9.4.

Baan Bayan is an old golden-teak beach house on the Hua Hin shore, restored into a 21-room boutique hotel. The house dates from the early 1900s, was once a royal family's summer retreat, and won an architectural conservation award from the Association of Siamese Architects in 2005. The rooms are all teak — high ceilings, louvred shutters, polished teak floors — for a period atmosphere you won't find in a new resort. It sits on the beach in central town, opposite Market Village, with a beachside pool and a seafood BBQ on the sand. A fit for couples who prefer the charm of an old wooden house to a modern room.
