The beating heart of Kenting evenings — the main street fills nightly with food stalls, seafood grills, carnival games and souvenir vendors. Open roughly 18:00–24:00 every night.

Prawns, squid, crab and lobster grilled straight from the sea. Available at both the night market stalls and the sit-down restaurants clustered around Houbihu Marina.

The local fried rice style in Hengchun Old Town has a distinct regional flavour. Cheap, filling and authentic — look for the busy lunch spots inside the city walls.

Traditional sesame-and-flour pastries unique to Hengchun. The most popular souvenir food from this area — buy a box at the old-town market to take home.

Taiwan's warm southern climate means mangoes, dragon fruit and papaya from local farms taste sweeter and cost less here than anywhere else on the island.

Small independent cafés tucked along the road near Sail Rock — the perfect spot for a morning coffee while watching the waves. Relaxed, photogenic and usually quiet before noon.

A well-reviewed pad thai vendor at the night market that draws both Thai tourists and locals. Consistent quality, fair price — look for the longest queue in the food section.

The marina zone has a cluster of seafood restaurants where the catch comes straight off the boat. Squid, reef fish, crab and tiger prawns cooked to order at reasonable prices.

The white lighthouse at the very tip of Taiwan (台灣最南端) — where the South China Sea meets the Pacific Ocean. 180° panoramic views from the cliff. Worth the drive to the end of the road.

A massive coral rock rising from the sea in the shape of a sailing ship — Kenting's most recognisable image. Best photographed at sunset when the light turns golden behind it.

Dramatic sea-cliffs with turquoise water below and rolling grassland above. One of the most visually striking spots on the peninsula. Peaceful in the morning before tour buses arrive.

Kenting's main diving base. Colourful shallow reefs suit beginners and snorkellers. Glass-bottom boat tours for those who'd rather stay dry. Multiple certified dive shops on-site.

Taiwan's most popular surf beach with consistent year-round waves. Multiple surf schools take complete beginners. Rent gear and get in the water the same day you arrive.

Pristine white-sand beach where scenes from Life of Pi were partially filmed. Clear water, quieter than Dawan, open from late spring to autumn. No facilities — bring your own supplies.

A rocky headland where weathered coral limestone has eroded into shapes resembling a cat's nose. Views of the sea on both sides. Open 24 hours, free entry — sunset here is unmissable.

Walking trails through old-growth tropical forest — a cooler alternative on hot days. Ancient trees draped in vines and a peaceful atmosphere far from the beach crowds.

The best-preserved ancient city walls in Taiwan, with four original gates (N/S/E/W) still standing. A one-to-two hour walk through living history before heading to the beach.

Taiwan's premier marine aquarium and research museum. Located in Checheng, about 20 minutes from central Kenting. Excellent for families with children — allow 3–4 hours.

A small coral island off the west coast — 30-minute ferry from Donggang. Sea turtles are almost guaranteed, snorkelling is excellent and you can scooter the whole island in a day.

Guided snorkelling and diving trips depart from Houbihu Marina daily. Explore the national park's protected coral reefs — a glass-bottom boat option is available for non-swimmers.

Home to the Yami indigenous people and their distinctive painted wooden canoes. Ferry from Houbihu or Taitung. Better suited to overnight stays — but a day trip is possible from Taitung.

Rent a scooter and do the full national park circuit in one day — Hengchun old town, Eluanbi Lighthouse, Longpan cliffs and Sail Rock. About 6–8 hours at a comfortable pace.

Surf schools at Nanwan run beginner sessions daily. A 3–4 hour lesson includes board, wetsuit and an instructor. Most first-timers stand up within the lesson. No experience needed.
