🎯 The short answer

For most travelers, Mexico is the best value — cheapest (a 5-day trip runs THB 60,000-90,000), it hosts the historic opening match at Azteca on 11 June, and entry is easiest (free if you hold a valid US/Schengen/Japan visa, or ~$48 in 5-15 days otherwise). USA is the pick if you want to witness the Final live, but the visa takes 8-12 months — start now. Canada sits in the middle, and gets much easier if you already hold a US visa (eTA is CA$7 in 2-3 minutes).

❓ FAQ

Frequently asked

Which country is best value for World Cup 2026?

Mexico is the best value for most travelers — cheapest (a 5-day trip starts at THB 60,000-90,000 vs USA's 120,000-200,000), it hosts the historic opening match at Azteca on 11 June, and entry is easiest: free if you hold a valid US/Canada/UK/Schengen/Japan visa, or a Mexican tourist visa (~$48, 5-15 working days) otherwise. USA is best if you want the Final/semifinals but its visa is hard (8-12 month wait). Canada sits in the middle.

Is Mexico visa-free for the World Cup?

Not unconditionally visa-free. Two routes: (1) if you hold a valid US, Canada, UK, Schengen or Japan visa, you enter Mexico without a separate visa using the FMM form at the airport (up to 180 days); (2) otherwise apply for a Mexican tourist visa at the embassy (~$48 USD, 5-15 working days). Either way is far cheaper and faster than a US visa.

How long does a US visa take for the World Cup?

Travelers from non-Visa-Waiver countries need a B1/B2 visa ($185 fee, valid 10 years). Interview waits at many embassies are currently 8-12 months, so if you plan to attend, start the DS-160 and book an interview now. If you already hold a valid B1/B2 you can use it.

Does Canada need a visa or an eTA?

It depends on whether you hold a US visa. With a valid US visa (or a Canadian visa held within 10 years) → apply for an eTA online for CA$7, approved in 2-3 minutes (air entry only). Otherwise → a TRV (Visitor Visa) at VFS Global, CAD 100 + 85, 4-8 week wait, with biometrics.

Which country hosts the big matches?

USA hosts the biggest matches — the Final on 19 July at MetLife (New York/NJ), the semifinals at Dallas and Atlanta, and the third-place match at Miami. Mexico hosts the historic opening match on 11 June at Azteca but only up to the group stage. Canada hosts up to the Round of 32.

Is English enough in Mexico?

English works at hotels, airports and tourist areas, but markets, taxis and local shops mostly use Spanish. Download Google Translate offline (Spanish) and use Uber/Didi rather than street taxis. USA and Canada are fully English-speaking.

How much do hotels rise during the World Cup?

In every country, hotels within 10 km of a stadium jump 3-5x on match days, but base prices differ a lot. Mexico has the lowest base — even with peak pricing it stays cheaper than USA. USA is most expensive, especially New York on Final day. Book at least 6 months ahead everywhere.

Are flights from Asia very different in length?

None of the three has a direct flight from Bangkok; all need a connection. Mexico is farthest (via Tokyo/LA, 24-30 hrs). US West Coast (LA/SF/Seattle) is closest at ~20-24 hrs via Tokyo/Taipei/Seoul. Canada's west coast (Vancouver) is as close as the US West Coast.
