There isn't a single nonstop from Bangkok to the USA, Canada or Mexico — every trip connects. This guide breaks down routes by destination, travel time, airlines, prices, and the transit-visa trap many travelers miss.
Let's be upfront: there are no nonstop flights from Bangkok (BKK/DMK) to the USA, Canada or Mexico — not one route. Every trip connects at least once or twice. That's not a dealbreaker, just something to plan around, because your choice of connection point affects travel time, price, and (most importantly) visas.
The main connection points from Bangkok are Tokyo (NRT/HND), Seoul (ICN), Taipei (TPE), Hong Kong (HKG), Doha (DOH) and Istanbul (IST). Routes via East Asia (Tokyo/Seoul/Taipei) cross the Pacific and suit US West Coast destinations, while routes via Doha/Istanbul cross the Atlantic and suit the East Coast but usually take longer.
If you plan to follow the tournament across multiple cities and countries, consider an "open-jaw" ticket — fly into one city, out of another (e.g. into Los Angeles, out of New York) to avoid backtracking across the continent. We break down routes by destination in the table below.
Total door-to-door times are approximate and include layovers — choose a connection point based on your destination and the visa you hold.
| Destination | Host cities | Main connections | Total time (approx) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 🇺🇸 US East | NYC · Boston · Miami · Atlanta · Philly | Tokyo / Seoul / Doha / Taipei | 22–28 hrs | US visa required |
| 🇺🇸 US West | Los Angeles · San Francisco · Seattle | Tokyo / Seoul / Taipei | 18–22 hrs | Shortest (Pacific crossing) |
| 🇲🇽 Mexico | Mexico City · Guadalajara · Monterrey | Often via US (LAX/DFW/IAH) · or Europe · or Canada | 24–30 hrs | ⚠ Via US needs a US transit visa |
| 🇨🇦 Canada | Toronto · Vancouver | Tokyo / Seoul / Hong Kong | 16–24 hrs | Vancouver shortest (Pacific) |

This is the trap travelers fall into most. Many flights from Asia to Mexico City/Guadalajara/Monterrey connect through US airports (e.g. Los Angeles–LAX, Dallas–DFW, Houston–IAH), and the USA has no "transit without visa" scheme (International Transit Without Visa).
That means simply landing to change planes at a US airport requires a US visa — either C-1 (transit) or B1/B2 (visitor) — because passengers must clear immigration and re-check bags in many cases. Without one, the airline will deny boarding back in Bangkok.
Two workarounds: (1) choose a route via Europe such as Madrid (Iberia/Air Europa fly nonstop Europe–Mexico City) or Paris — never touching US soil · (2) choose a route via Canada (Vancouver/Toronto, then onward to Mexico). Both avoid the months-long US visa wait.
BKK → Madrid/Paris/Frankfurt → Mexico City, crossing the Atlantic nonstop with no US visa needed (you may need to check Schengen transit/ETIAS rules). Longer, but it sidesteps the US transit problem.
BKK → Vancouver/Toronto → Mexico City, using a Canadian visa (Thai passport holders aren't eTA-eligible — a visa is required) instead of a US visa. Good if you're attending matches in Canada anyway.
These airlines connect Bangkok to North America via their own hubs — choose by the connection that suits you and the best fare.
Round-trip economy during the World Cup runs about 35,000–65,000 THB depending on destination and how far ahead you book — US West Coast is usually slightly cheaper than the East Coast, and Mexico tends to be priciest due to long, multi-stop routes. These are approximate ranges, not fixed fares.
If you're heading to Mexico and don't want a US visa, avoid airlines hubbed in the US and pick carriers connecting via Europe/Canada instead. If you already hold a US visa, every route is open to you and often cheaper.
During the World Cup (June-July 2026) demand is very high and prices climb fast — booking early locks in better fares and seats, especially for key rounds and popular cities.
Fares are often cheaper mid-week. Compare flexible dates ±2-3 days — it can save you thousands of baht.
Compare every airline and connection in one place, open "whole month" to find the cheapest dates, and set price alerts.
Watching matches in several cities? Fly into one city, out of another (e.g. into LA, out of NYC) — usually cheaper and faster than backtracking to your original gateway.
