Trip Overview

Four Days That Hit the Sweet Spot

Three days in Taipei makes for a "complete" trip — but 4 days and 3 nights is the version where nothing feels rushed. There is room to breathe: time to linger over a pot of tea in an old Jiufen teahouse without watching the clock, and still enough left over for a relaxing soak in the Beitou hot springs before you fly home.

Like our shorter itinerary, this one is organised by zone so you never double back — Day 1 explores the old town of Wanhua and Ximending, Day 2 takes on the Xinyi district and Taipei 101, Day 3 is a full day trip to Jiufen and Shifen, and Day 4 winds down gently with a museum or an onsen before departure.

Every stop is reachable by MRT or bus. Ticket prices in the plan are in NT$ (NT$1 ≈ US$0.031). It suits both first-time visitors and anyone who wants to go a little deeper than a quick weekend trip allows.

6 Things to Know Before You Travel

💳
Get an EasyCard — It Does Everything
Tap to ride the MRT, buses and suburban trains, and pay at convenience stores. This 4-day plan uses public transport exclusively, so one card covers your whole trip. Top it up at stations or convenience stores.
📶
Activate a Travel eSIM Before You Fly
Having data the moment you land lets you open Maps and navigate straight away — especially handy on the day trip when you need to check train times. No SIM-kiosk queue required.
🚆
Take the Airport MRT Express
From Taoyuan Airport, choose the Express (blue) train — fewer stops, reaching Taipei Main Station in 35–40 minutes. Better value and more reliable than the airport bus.
🏨
Use One Hotel for All 3 Nights
Pick a base near Taipei Main Station or Ximending and stay put — no packing and moving mid-trip. Both connect to every MRT line and the Airport MRT.
🗓️
Avoid Mondays for Museums
Some museums close on Mondays (the National Palace Museum opens daily). If your trip lands on a Monday, simply swap the order of Day 3 and Day 4.

Frequently Asked Questions

Planning 4 Days in Taipei — Common Questions

Can I do a 4-day Taipei trip independently, or do I need a tour?
You can comfortably do it independently. Taipei has a clean, punctual MRT system with English signage at every station. In this 4-day plan almost every stop is reachable by MRT and bus. Only Day 3 (Jiufen, Shifen and optionally Yehliu) is where many travellers choose a tour with included transport for convenience, though connecting by public transport is entirely doable too.
How much does a 4-day, 3-night Taipei trip cost per person?
Based on this itinerary, expect roughly NT$9,000–13,500 per person (about US$280–420), excluding flights and personal shopping. That covers 3 nights' accommodation in a shared double room, food, transport and entrance fees. The range depends mainly on your choice of hotel.
Which area should I stay in for a 4-day Taipei trip?
We recommend staying near Taipei Main Station or Ximending, as both connect to every MRT line and the Airport MRT, and are safe to return to late at night. See options in our 10 Main Station hotels roundup. For a Taipei 101 view, check our Taipei 101-view hotels. Hot-spring lovers could spend the last night in Beitou.
How do I get from Taoyuan Airport to central Taipei?
The easiest and best-value option is the Taoyuan Airport MRT (purple line). The Express train reaches Taipei Main Station in about 35–40 minutes for around NT$150, departing every 15 minutes. Airport buses and taxis are available but cost more.
Can I fit both Jiufen and Beitou hot springs into 4 days?
Yes. This plan dedicates Day 3 to a full-day Jiufen-Shifen trip (add Yehliu if you start early) and uses Day 4 morning for a Beitou hot-spring soak before your flight, so you get both the hilltop village and an onsen without rushing.
What is the best time of year to visit Taipei?
The best weather is in March–May and October–November: clear skies, mild temperatures and little rain. Avoid June–August, which is hot, humid and typhoon-prone. Winter (December–February) is cool with frequent drizzle, but it is the most rewarding season for a Beitou hot-spring soak.
