❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers for trip planning.
What is the best month to visit Taipei?
October and November are the best months overall — cool, clear skies, autumn foliage, and no typhoon risk. March and April are a close second for cherry blossom season. Avoid July–August if you're heat-sensitive.
Does Taiwan have a rainy season?
Yes — June through September is typhoon and monsoon season, bringing heavy rain and high humidity. Typhoons hit an average of 3–4 times per year. Travel insurance is strongly recommended during this period. Check the Central Weather Administration (CWA) before departure.
Is it cold in Taipei in winter?
Yes, it gets genuinely cold. December to February can drop to 8–12°C, especially during cold fronts. Taipei doesn't have the infrastructure for extreme cold (no central heating in older buildings), so pack a proper coat. The upside: hot spring season is absolutely perfect in winter.
When does cherry blossom bloom in Taipei?
Cherry blossoms typically peak in mid-to-late March at Yangmingshan National Park. The exact timing shifts by 1–2 weeks each year depending on winter temperatures. Alishan blooms slightly later (April), and Wuling Farm in central Taiwan can be earlier (February at high altitude).
How do I book hotels for Taipei 101 New Year countdown?
Hotels with direct Taipei 101 views (Grand Hyatt, W Taipei, Humble House, Le Méridien) sell out for Dec 31 by September or October. Prices jump 1.5–3× from normal. Book as early as August if possible. Alternatively, join the street crowds in Xinyi for free — just arrive by 9pm for a good spot.
