→ Taiwan — MRT/HSR makes travel easy, full English signage, high cleanliness, free Wi-Fi everywhere. Much less stress for first-timers. Vietnam requires more Grab/taxi use; infrastructure is still basic.
→ Vietnam 100% — Same budget gets you 6-7 comfortable days in Vietnam vs 3-4 super-frugal days in Taiwan. Tickets as low as 2,500 THB round-trip in some seasons — no need to wait for a major promo.
→ Vietnam — Phu Quoc, Da Nang, Nha Trang, Mui Ne. Beachfront rooms 1,500-3,000 THB. Taiwan only has Kenting and it's not a main strength. For diving or full beach trips, Vietnam is the clear pick.
→ Taiwan — Taroko Gorge (marble canyons), Alishan (sea-of-clouds train), Hehuanshan at 3,422m. Multiple difficulty levels, well-organized. Sapa in Vietnam is stunning but the tour/transport system is less developed.
→ Tie (different styles) — Vietnam: pho for breakfast, banh mi for lunch, bun cha for dinner — authentic alleyway food, 30-80 THB. Taiwan: 50+ night markets, diverse menus, very clean, 50-150 THB. Both are foodie paradises.
→ Vietnam — Hoi An (UNESCO ancient town with lantern-lit nights), Hue (former Nguyen Dynasty capital), Hanoi Old Quarter, Cu Chi Tunnels — deep historical experiences. Taiwan has less in this department.
→ Taiwan 100% — Beitou is 40 min by MRT from Taipei. Jiaoxi in Yilan is 1 hour away. Public baths 40-100 THB; private rooms from 300 THB/hour. Vietnam has no equivalent hot spring culture.
→ Vietnam — Just 1.5 hrs flight, cheap tickets — ideal for 3-4 day weekend trips, 2-3 times a year. Taiwan suits longer 5-7 day trips, typically once a year.
