Compare all three trip lengths across 8 dimensions — budget, cities covered, day trips, cost-per-day, and who each suits best.
Before looking at numbers, understand the value structure of each trip length
The question "how many days should I spend in Taiwan?" depends on your available leave, budget, travel style, and what you want from this trip. There is no single "best" length for everyone — but there is a clear sweet spot for cost-efficiency.
This page uses mid-range traveler budgets: 3–4 star hotels at NT$1,800–3,500/night + mixed dining (mostly local restaurants, 1–2 special meals) + 2–3 Klook tours. Flights are quoted separately (approximately THB 8,000–25,000 / USD 220–700 round-trip from Bangkok, varying by season). Budget travelers can spend 40% less; luxury travelers 2–3x more.
⚠️ Chart shows marginal value per additional day. Days 1–5 deliver the highest return. Days 6–7 are still strong. Days 8–10 add depth, not more highlights.

Your round-trip flight is a fixed cost. Spread over more days, the daily "real cost" drops significantly.
The longer you stay, the lower the per-day flight cost. This makes the 7-day trip the lowest actual cost-per-day of the three options — the best balance between time investment and value extracted.
Recommended: 7 days. See Taipei properly, fit in 2–3 day trips, and keep a buffer day. If time is tight, 5 days still covers all the main highlights but Taiwan will feel like it went past in a blur.
Recommended: 7 days. Time for romantic experiences like Beitou onsen, 101 night views, and a Jiufen evening — without the race-everywhere feeling. Add Sun Moon Lake for 8 days if budget allows.
Recommended: 7–10 days. Kids need slower pacing and buffer days for Taipei Zoo, Xpark, or the Children's Discovery Museum. Choose 7 days for toddlers, 10 days if your kids are older and want more exploration.
Recommended: 5 days. Taipei is highly efficient — excellent MRT, direct airport link, hotels everywhere. You can see 101, the National Palace Museum, night markets, and Jiufen without ever leaving the MRT network.
Recommended: 10 days. You know Taipei — now go deeper. East Coast, Taroko, Tainan's temples and food scene, or Penghu Islands. Slow travel, overnight stays in smaller towns, and the satisfaction of actually finishing a proper Taiwan loop.
Recommended: 10 days. These seasonal windows reward longer stays. Winter (Dec–Feb): Beitou onsen at its best, cool weather for all-day walking. Cherry blossom (Mar–Apr): Yangmingshan crowds thin mid-week. Autumn (Oct–Nov): foliage road trips around the island.
