Taipei has excellent riverside cycling paths stretching over 100 km. Choose a guided tour (bookable on Klook) or ride independently on YouBike — this guide covers every route, price, and tip you need before you saddle up.
Taipei's riverside paths are flat and safe, but cycling tours are not for everyone. Read this before booking.
Taipei has invested heavily in cycling infrastructure — flat, paved, and separated from traffic along all major rivers.
Taipei's riverside cycling network follows five main rivers — Tamsui, Keelung, Xindian, Jingmei and Sanchong — with over 100 km of dedicated asphalt paths completely separated from motor traffic. The terrain is almost entirely flat, making it genuinely accessible for casual riders.
More than 1,500 YouBike 2.0 docking stations dot the entire network, so you can start and end your ride at any station without retracing your route.
All tours include a bicycle and helmet. An English-speaking guide leads the group, handles navigation, and shares local context along the way.
The classic Taipei sampler. Starting from Da'an Park, the route passes the Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall, Taipei 101 (exterior photo stop), CKS Memorial Hall and Liberty Square. Best for first-timers — flat, well-signed, and covers the most famous landmarks in a single ride.
🔍 View on Klook →The most popular tour. Departing from Dadaocheng historic wharf, the route follows the Tamsui River north through riverside parks to Tamsui Old Street, timed to arrive at sunset. Return by MRT. Best views of any Taipei ride.
🔍 View on Klook →A slower-paced ride through Taipei's oldest neighbourhoods. Starting at Dihua Street (the traditional medicine market), the route winds through Wanhua to Longshan Temple. Great for history lovers — best done in the morning before crowds.
🔍 View on Klook →An evening ride through lit-up neighbourhoods with stops at small night markets for snacks along the way. Ideal for summer visits when daytime heat is too intense — Taipei comes alive at night and temperatures drop noticeably.
🔍 View on Klook →A fully customisable private ride along the river with a café stop. Ideal for couples or small groups wanting a personal experience — the guide tailors the route and pace to your group. Price is per group, so the more people, the cheaper per person.

If you prefer to ride at your own pace, these are the most rewarding self-guided routes for YouBike riders.
Taipei's flagship cycling route. Start at the Dadaocheng historic wharf (near MRT Beimen) and follow the Tamsui River north through riverside parks, sports facilities and communities, finishing at Tamsui Old Street for seafood and a sunset. Take the Red Line MRT back. Flat the entire way — suitable for beginners.
An in-city route ideal for a morning or late afternoon ride. Starting at Da'an Forest Park, the loop passes through the Yongkang café district and ends at Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall. Largely residential streets and parks — minimal busy-road time. Perfect for architecture photography and café hopping.
A short and easy riverside ride along the northern bank of the Keelung River, ending at Songshan Cultural and Creative Park — a converted tobacco factory housing galleries, design shops and cafés. Best as a morning half-day activity. Very flat; a great first YouBike ride for newcomers.
A cross-river route blending nature and history. Start at the Lin Family Mansion and Garden in Banqiao (a classical Qing Dynasty garden), cross the river bridge into Wanhua (Mengjia) — Taipei's oldest district. Involves some on-road cycling — better suited to riders who are already confident.
A downhill run from the Beitou area through Tianmu into the city. Requires confident braking and good cycling skills — the road carries vehicle traffic and has no dedicated bike lane. Not suitable for standard YouBike — use a geared rental bike from a shop near Beitou station.
Taipei's riverside cycling paths are fully separated from motor traffic, flat and well-maintained. They are genuinely safe environments for children who can already ride independently. Other cyclists and walkers use these paths throughout the day, adding to a sense of safety.
There are a few important limitations to be aware of before bringing children along.
