EVA Air is Taiwan's premium full-service carrier — holder of SKYTRAX's 5-star certification for 11 consecutive years. Flying direct from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) to Taoyuan (TPE) in roughly 3.5 hours, it offers a measurably different experience from low-cost alternatives. Here is everything you need to know before you book.
EVA Air was founded in 1989 as the private international arm of Taiwan's Evergreen Group — identifiable by its distinctive green livery. It has held SKYTRAX's 5-star certification for 11 consecutive years (2016–2026), placing it in the same tier as Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Qatar Airways. That is not a marketing claim; it reflects consistent independent auditing of cabin cleanliness, crew service, catering quality and ground operations.
On the Bangkok Suvarnabhumi (BKK) to Taipei Taoyuan (TPE) route, EVA Air operates daily with Boeing 777-300ER aircraft, flight time approximately 3.5–4 hours, landing at Taoyuan Terminal 2. All data on this page is approximate and subject to change — verify schedules and fares directly with EVA Air before booking.

Seats, food, baggage, IFE, service, Hello Kitty, fares and booking timing — covered plainly.
Economy Class (3-3-3): A personal IFE touchscreen at every seat, a full meal service, and 23 kg checked baggage included. Noticeably more comfortable than any low-cost carrier and the catering quality is genuinely better than most full-service economy cabins.
Premium Economy (2-4-2, 56 seats): Wider seat with more recline, enhanced meal service on dedicated crockery, extra baggage. Good value on a short-to-medium route if the fare difference is not too large.
Royal Laurel Business (1-2-1): Reverse herringbone layout — every seat has direct aisle access. Full lie-flat. Considered one of the best business class products in Asia, with crew service and catering that justify the premium.
EVA Air's 777-300ER Economy typically offers a seat pitch of around 31–32 inches and a seat width of approximately 17 inches — in line with full-service airline norms, not cramped but not generous either. For a 3.5–4 hour flight it is comfortable enough for most travellers without being memorable.
Taller passengers or those who want more space should select an aisle seat or, where available, an exit-row seat at online check-in (opens 48 hours before departure). Some preferred seats carry a small selection fee. Check the EVA Air seat map when booking.
EVA Air includes checked baggage in the ticket price on international routes — a key distinction from low-cost carriers where baggage is always an add-on.
Economy: 1 checked bag × 23 kg (max 158 cm total dimensions)
Premium Economy: 2 checked bags × 23 kg each
Royal Laurel Business: 2 checked bags × 32 kg each
Carry-on: 1 bag × 7 kg (max 23×36×56 cm) + 1 personal item × 40×30×10 cm for all classes. Confirm against your booking confirmation — specific ticket types may vary.
In-flight catering is EVA Air's most consistently praised feature — the airline holds SKYTRAX's Best Economy Class Catering award, which means independently verified meal quality above the industry average even at the back of the plane.
On BKK–TPE flights, Economy passengers typically choose between two main courses (often a rice and a noodle option), with a starter, dessert and drinks throughout the flight. Meals are plated with more care than most Economy services.
Special Meal: Vegetarian, halal, kosher, low-sodium and a range of other dietary options are available — request through the EVA Air website at least 24 hours before departure.
IFE: Every seat across all cabins has a personal touchscreen — movies, TV series, music, games, a flight map and duty-free catalogue. Content library includes English, Mandarin, Japanese and other languages. Screen size and quality improve in Premium Economy and Business.
Wi-Fi: EVA Air provides free unlimited Wi-Fi to all passengers on aircraft fitted with the system — an advantage over carriers that still charge per session or per megabyte. Coverage is expanding across the fleet. Confirm whether your specific flight has Wi-Fi via the EVA Air website when booking; it is not universally available on every aircraft in the fleet yet.
EVA Air cabin crew consistently receive high marks from passengers and SKYTRAX evaluators alike — the airline is particularly noted for attentive, professional and genuinely warm service that distinguishes it from carriers that merely tick compliance boxes. Aircraft cleanliness is exceptional (World's Cleanest Airline award, SKYTRAX 2025).
On-time performance is generally solid, though delays can occur due to weather, air-traffic control and the usual variables. Passengers connecting onward from Taoyuan should allow at least 90 minutes to 2 hours of transit time for international connections — the airport is large and Terminal 2 check-in queues can be long at peak times.
EVA Air's partnership with Sanrio produces Hello Kitty Jets — aircraft painted head-to-toe in Hello Kitty characters, with themed interiors covering headrests, meal trays, napkins and crockery. For fans of Sanrio or kawaii culture, these flights are a memorable experience in themselves.
The important caveat: Hello Kitty Jets operate on specific assigned routes and are not a regular feature of the Bangkok–Taipei service. The dedicated routes are primarily Tokyo, Seoul, Guam and Los Angeles. If flying a Hello Kitty Jet is important to you, check the route schedule at evakitty.com before booking rather than assuming your flight will be one.
Approximate return fares BKK–TPE (early 2026 reference, subject to change):
Economy: THB 9,000–15,000+ standard periods / higher at peak
Premium Economy: THB 17,000–28,000+
Royal Laurel Business: THB 60,000–120,000+
Fares are lowest when booked 6–10 weeks in advance outside peak windows. Avoid cherry blossom season (late March–April), Chinese New Year and Thai public holidays — fares in these windows can be 50–100% higher. EVA Air's own website frequently runs promotions not always replicated on third-party booking sites, and direct bookings make it easier to manage Special Meal requests and seat selection.
An honest assessment of who benefits most — and who might reasonably choose differently.
If you fly regularly and prioritise mile accumulation, EVA Air's Star Alliance membership means miles earned on this flight credit to Thai Airways (ROH), Singapore Airlines, ANA and 22 other partners. Royal Laurel Business Class offers a lie-flat product with service quality that justifies the premium for trips where arriving rested matters. The EVA Air lounge at Suvarnabhumi is a civilised pre-flight space. Register for Infinity MileageLands before booking to start earning immediately.
For families travelling with children or older travellers, EVA Air removes several planning headaches: checked baggage is included so there are no surprise add-on costs, meals mean no pre-flight food-buying rush, and the IFE system keeps children occupied for the whole flight. The crew's well-earned reputation for warmth and attentiveness makes travelling with young children noticeably easier than on carriers where service is more transactional.
If your primary objective is the lowest possible fare and the in-flight experience is not a consideration, low-cost carriers operating from Don Mueang (DMK) — Thai Lion Air (SL) or AirAsia X (XJ) — can offer promotional fares from THB 4,000–7,000 return. However, these fares exclude baggage and meals, which close much of the gap when added back. On a short 3.5-hour route the difference in experience between EVA Air and a low-cost carrier is real but less pronounced than on a long-haul flight — worth weighing honestly against the price difference at the time of booking.
