Xpark Aquarium Taiwan
Japanese-style immersive aquarium near Taoyuan Airport

13 immersive zones, around 420 species, a penguin café and a mesmerising jellyfish tunnel — all designed by the team behind Yokohama Hakkeijima Sea Paradise. And it's just 30 minutes from Taipei Main Station by Airport MRT.

Important First

Xpark is in Taoyuan, not Taipei— but it's only 30 minutes away by MRT

A common confusion: Xpark is located inside Aoyuan Plaza in Taoyuan City — not in Taipei itself. Taoyuan is about 30 kilometres south-west of Taipei's city centre. The good news is that it's genuinely easy to reach: Airport MRT station A18 (Taoyuan HSR Station) is a 3-minute walk from the entrance, meaning you can get there from Taipei Main Station in around 30 minutes.

Xpark opened in 2020 as Taiwan's first aquarium operated by Yokohama Hakkeijima, the Japanese group behind the Hakkeijima Sea Paradise complex in Yokohama. The design philosophy reflects that origin: the emphasis is on immersive environments and experiential zones rather than rows of tanks — cleaner, more curated, and with a distinctly Japanese aesthetic throughout.

🎯 Xpark — who it's great for, and who might not find it worth it

✓ Great fit if you...

  • Are travelling with children or family
  • Have a rainy day with nothing planned (100% indoors)
  • Are staying near Taoyuan Airport — ideal on arrival or departure day
  • Appreciate Japanese design and immersive experiences

— May not be worth it if you...

  • Are solo travelling on a tight budget (NT$580+ per person is steep alone)
  • Are based in central Taipei and don't want to add a 30-min commute
  • Are going on a weekend without booking ahead (long queues, crowded)
  • Expect large-scale tanks like Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan
🐧
Penguin Café
Dine in an area next to the penguin habitat — a genuinely unique experience you won't find at most aquariums
🪼
Jellyfish Mist
Taiwan's most-photographed jellyfish tunnel — coloured lighting and the design make this the highlight reel shot
🌊
Open Sea Tank
The central showpiece — a large tank viewable from multiple angles and floors, with sharks, rays, and coral

The 13 Zones

What you'll see at Xparkthe 8 zones worth prioritising

Xpark divides its space into 13 distinct themed zones. Here are the ones most visitors highlight as the best use of your time.

Opening Zone

Crystal of Life

The first zone greets you with a tall cylindrical tank in which large schools of fish circle in formation. The design emphasises clarity and light, making the fish appear to float in mid-air. A popular photo spot from the moment you step in.

Freshwater Zone

Wonders of Wetlands

A quieter zone recreating a lush wetland environment — frogs, freshwater turtles, plants, and small aquatic creatures in carefully lit habitats. A good break from the more dramatic zones and ideal for nature photography.

Coastal Zone

Coastal Journey

Recreates a shallow coastal ecosystem with colourful fish, sea cucumbers, and intertidal creatures in shallow tanks. Great for younger children who can get close to the animals and actually see what's living in the shallows.

Centrepiece

Open Sea — The Big Tank

The architectural focal point of Xpark. A large multi-storey tank housing sharks, rays and pelagic fish that can be viewed from several levels and angles. Most dramatic at dusk when the lighting shifts to a deep blue.

Most Popular

Jellyfish Mist — the Tunnel

Xpark's single most-photographed spot. Walk through a tunnel surrounded by jellyfish of several species drifting around you, as colour-shifting lights move through the water. The space is limited and queues build fast on weekends.

Tip: Head here first thing when the aquarium opens — the queue is dramatically shorter in the first 30 minutes.

Deep Zone

Mystery of the Caves

A dimly lit section recreating deep-sea cave environments, with species adapted to low light conditions. Atmospheric and unusual — a good contrast to the bright central zones and popular with visitors who enjoy the deep-sea theme.

Show Zone

Sea Lion Smiles

A dedicated area for the resident sea lions with scheduled shows. Kids are particularly enthusiastic here. Check the day's show schedule at the entrance so you can plan your route and arrive in time for a performance.

The Star Zone

Penguin Habitat + Penguin Café

Watch the penguins in their recreated polar habitat, and — uniquely — the Penguin Café lets you dine in an adjacent area while the penguins are active nearby. Seatings are extremely limited and must be booked online in advance, often weeks ahead on weekends.

Getting There

Getting to Xpark from Taipeithe Airport MRT is the easiest route

Xpark is at Aoyuan Plaza in Taoyuan — about 30 km from Taipei. The Airport MRT makes it straightforward, and from the airport itself it's even closer.

🚇 Recommended — Airport MRT

  • 🟣Take the Purple Line (Airport MRT) from Taipei Main Station (A1) to A18 Taoyuan HSR Station — approximately 30 minutes, NT$135. Trains run every 6–15 minutes.
  • 🚶From A18 station, walk approximately 3 minutes into Aoyuan Plaza to reach Xpark. Signage in English and Chinese directs you clearly.
  • 💳Tap in with your EasyCard — no need to buy a separate ticket if you already have one loaded.
  • ✈️From Taoyuan Airport (A16): just 2 stops to A18 — roughly 8 minutes. Ideal for transit passengers or visitors on arrival/departure day.

🚅 Other options

  • 🚄THSR (High Speed Rail): Taipei to Taoyuan Station ~20 min, NT$160, then connect to Airport MRT for 1 stop to A18. Slightly faster than direct Airport MRT but costs more.
  • 🚕Taxi / private transfer: Approximately 40–60 minutes from central Taipei, NT$1,200–1,800 depending on traffic. Not cost-effective unless you're a group of 4+.
  • 🚌TRA train + bus: More transfers, more time. Not recommended when Airport MRT is available and straightforward.
✈️

Arrival or departure day tip: Xpark is only 10–15 minutes from Taoyuan International Airport by car, or 2 MRT stops. If your evening flight doesn't leave until 8 or 9pm, you can check out of your hotel, drop luggage at the airport, visit Xpark in the afternoon, and head straight to check-in afterwards — Xpark has free lockers at the entrance for bags.

Insider Tips

7 tips for visiting Xparkto avoid queues and make the most of it

📅
Avoid weekends if possible
On Saturdays and Sundays local families pack Xpark. Some zones queue 30–40 minutes. A weekday visit is significantly calmer and more enjoyable — especially for photographs.
🪼
Go to Jellyfish Mist first
It's the most popular zone and has limited space. Head straight there when doors open and you'll have it nearly to yourself. By mid-morning queues can be 20+ minutes.
🐧
Book Penguin Café well in advance
Seatings fill fast — especially on weekends. Book online through Xpark's website or Klook at least 1–2 weeks ahead. Same-day availability is rare on busy dates.
⏱️
Budget 2.5–3 hours
Enough to see all 13 zones. Add 45–60 minutes if you have a Penguin Café sitting. Plan to arrive when the aquarium opens for the best experience with the shortest queues.
🍱
Food inside is expensive
Food and drink within Xpark carries a premium. If you're on a budget, eat at the restaurants in Aoyuan Plaza before entering, or head there after your visit.
🧳
Free lockers at the entrance
Leave bulky luggage in the free lockers at the entrance so you can move freely through the zones — particularly handy if you've come straight from the airport.
📸
Photography is fine — no flash
You can photograph everywhere in Xpark, but flash photography is prohibited to avoid stressing the animals. Use Night or Pro mode on your phone for low-light shots in the jellyfish and deep-sea zones.
Combine in One Day

What else to do on the same dayin and around Aoyuan and Taoyuan

Xpark typically takes 2.5–3 hours, leaving you the rest of the day to combine with other activities.

Same Building

Aoyuan Plaza Hotel & Dining

Aoyuan Plaza is a large mixed-use development with hotels, restaurants and retail stores. After Xpark you can eat, shop, or relax without leaving the complex — a convenient way to spend the rest of the afternoon.

~15 min by Grab

Mitsui Outlet Park Taoyuan

A large Japanese-brand outlet mall (Mitsui) not far from Xpark. If your trip includes some shopping, combining a morning at Xpark with an afternoon at the outlet is a popular choice among visitors staying near the airport.

~30 min back by MRT

Taipei in the Evening

Leave Xpark by mid-afternoon, take the Airport MRT back to Taipei, and you're still in time for a night market or dinner in Ximending or Xinyi District. Plan to board the MRT back by around 6:30–7pm to have a comfortable evening.

Near the Airport

Arrival or Departure Day Trip

Xpark is just 10–15 minutes from Taoyuan Airport — one of the best options for travellers arriving early (drop bags, visit Xpark before hotel check-in) or departing late (check out, stow bags at the airport, visit Xpark, go to departure).

Worth It?

Who will love Xparkand who might feel it wasn't worth the trip

🎯 4 visitors who'll love it

  • 👨‍👩‍👧Families with children — diverse zones, safe fully-indoor environment, penguins and sea lions that kids respond to. A strong family day out.
  • 💑Couples on a weekday — the jellyfish tunnel and Open Sea tank in low light are genuinely romantic when it's not crowded.
  • 🌧️Anyone on a rainy or very hot day — fully climate-controlled, 100% indoors. Weather is simply not a factor.
  • 🧳Travellers staying near the airport — 2 MRT stops away. Hard to beat for convenience on an arrival or departure day.

⚠️ 4 visitors who might hesitate

  • 💰Budget solo travellers — at NT$580+ per ticket, it's a meaningful expense when you're the only one paying. More cost-effective as a couple or family.
  • 🏙️Taipei-based visitors with a packed itinerary — the 30-minute commute each way adds up. If every day is already full, Xpark may not fit.
  • 🦁Visitors expecting a massive aquarium — Xpark is not Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan or Georgia Aquarium in scale. The focus is on design and experience, not sheer size.
  • 📅Weekend visitors without a booking — counter queues, crowded zones, and Penguin Café fully booked. Go midweek or plan at least a week ahead.
Frequently Asked Questions

What to know before you visitXpark Aquarium

Do young children get free entry to Xpark?
Children under 4 enter free when accompanied by a paying adult. Children aged 4–11 pay approximately NT$420. Adults (age 12 and over) pay approximately NT$580 when booking online through Klook, or around NT$650 at the on-site counter. Always check the latest prices at the Xpark website or on Klook before booking, as they can change.
Is there parking at Xpark?
Parking is available in Aoyuan Plaza, the same complex as Xpark, at standard Plaza parking rates. However, if travelling from Taipei, the Airport MRT to station A18 (Taoyuan HSR Station) followed by a 3-minute walk is far more convenient — especially on weekends when parking can be difficult to find.
How long does a visit to Xpark take?
Most visitors spend around 2.5 to 3 hours to see all 13 zones at a comfortable pace. If you include a sitting at Penguin Café, budget an extra 45–60 minutes, bringing the total to roughly 3.5–4 hours. Arriving when the aquarium opens means shorter queues for the most popular zones and a calmer overall experience.
How do I book the Penguin Café?
The Penguin Café is a special dining experience where you eat in an area close to the penguin habitat. Seatings are limited and fill up quickly, especially on weekends and public holidays. Book online through the Xpark website directly, or through Klook, at least 1–2 weeks before your planned visit. Same-day or walk-in availability is very rare on busy dates.
Is Xpark a good option on a rainy day?
Absolutely — Xpark is 100% indoors with no outdoor areas at all. Heavy rain has zero impact on your visit. This makes it one of the best rainy-day choices in northern Taiwan, particularly for families and couples who want to avoid the weather entirely.
How close is Xpark to Taoyuan Airport?
Very close — approximately 10–15 minutes by taxi from Taoyuan International Airport, or just 2 stops on the Airport MRT from A16 (Airport Terminal 1 and 2) to A18 (Taoyuan HSR Station). This makes Xpark an excellent option for your first day after landing before hotel check-in, or your last afternoon before flying home. Free lockers at the entrance handle luggage storage.
