Path A · Free + FMM only (fast): If you hold a valid US / Canada / UK / Schengen / Japan visa (or an APEC Business Travel Card), you're exempt from the Mexican visa. Just fill out the FMM at the airport — stay up to 180 days. Free.

What is the FMM — the Green Entry Card

The FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple) is the immigration entry card every traveler fills out — whether you hold a Mexican tourist visa or qualify via the US/Canada/UK/Schengen/Japan visa exemption. The FMM itself is NOT a visa and does not replace a Mexican visa for Thai citizens without one of those exempting visas.

The FMM (Forma Migratoria Múltiple) is a light-green entry card issued by Mexico's INM (Instituto Nacional de Migración) — the country's immigration authority. It records when you entered, why you came, and how many days you may stay. Everyone enters Mexico on an FMM, including holders of Mexican visas and travelers using the US/CA/UK/Schengen/JP visa exemption.

The card grants up to 180 days per visit for tourism purposes. The immigration officer writes the actual number of days on the card after a brief interview — they may grant fewer days than you ask for if the answers seem inconsistent (for example, you request 180 days but your return flight is in 7 days, they might write 30). It's at their discretion.

The FMM has two parts: the top stub stays with the officer at entry; the bottom part (Pase de Salida) you must keep with you for the entire trip and surrender on departure. Don't lose it — if you do, you must visit an INM office, pay a fine of around USD 30-40, and obtain a replacement before you'll be allowed to board your flight home. We recommend snapping a photo of it immediately after receiving it.

FMM fee for tourists arriving by air is included in your airline ticket — no separate payment at the airport. (Travelers entering by land or cruise ship may pay separately, around MXN 700 or about USD 40, depending on method.)

How to Fill Out the FMM Step by Step

You can complete the FMM in three places — on the plane before landing (recommended, saves time at the counter), at the airport immigration desk (forms and pens are provided), or online via the INM website before traveling. The process is the same in all three.

Get the form from a flight attendant (or download it)

Shortly before landing, flight attendants distribute the FMM along with a customs form (Aduana). If you didn't get one, just ask. If you'd prefer to fill it out beforehand, visit inm.gob.mx, select "Forma Migratoria Múltiple," complete it online, and print it out.

The form is in Spanish and English. Write with a black pen in BLOCK CAPITALS — clearly, without crossing out or erasing.

Fill in personal details exactly as on your passport

Full name (in English, exactly as on the passport), date of birth, gender, nationality (Thai), passport number, issue and expiry dates, country of issue (Thailand), city of departure, airline, and flight number.

Be careful — names must match the passport letter for letter, including titles (MR, MS, MRS) that some airlines add to your ticket. Mismatches may force you to fill out the form again.

State your reason for visiting and where you'll stay

Purpose: tick "Tourism / Turismo" (this covers watching football matches). Length of stay: write the actual number of days you'll be in Mexico, matching your return flight. "10 days" or "14 days" is better than writing "180" — officers will believe what's reasonable.

Address in Mexico: the name and address of the hotel for your first night (per your Booking/Agoda confirmation). If staying at several places, the first one is fine. Don't leave it blank — immigration may ask to see your booking confirmation.

Sign and submit at the immigration counter

Sign in the Firma (Signature) field exactly as on your passport. Enter the date in DD/MM/YYYY format. Keep the bottom stub (Pase de Salida) that the officer stamps and returns to you — store it separately from your passport in your document pouch, and snap a photo immediately as backup.

Immigration queues at major Mexican airports (Mexico City CDMX, Cancun CUN, Guadalajara GDL) will be very long during the World Cup — allow 60-90 minutes before connecting flights or hotel check-in deadlines.

Return the FMM when leaving the country

On departure, present your passport plus the bottom FMM stub at immigration before boarding. The officer will collect it as proof you left within your authorized window. If you've lost it by then, visit the INM office at the airport first — pay a fine and complete a replacement form (Reposición), which takes 30-60 minutes.

Overstaying the FMM's authorized days carries a fine and may result in being banned from re-entering for 1-5 years. Not worth the risk.

Mexican immigration officers will ask quick questions for about 30-60 seconds. Keep your answers short, direct, and relaxed. Basic English is fine — if you don't understand, just ask them to speak more slowly.

Answer: "Tourism" or "I'm here to watch the World Cup." If both, say "Tourism and football." Do NOT say "Business" or "Work" — those trigger harder questioning.
How long will you stay? / ¿Cuánto tiempo se quedará?
Answer: Give a clear number — "Ten days" or "Two weeks" — matching your return ticket. Don't be vague ("maybe one month or two") because the officer will likely grant fewer days than you'd hoped.
Where will you stay? / ¿Dónde se hospedará?
Answer: Say the hotel name and city — e.g., "Hilton Mexico City Reforma." Show the booking on your phone if asked. If staying at multiple places, the first one is enough.
Do you have a return ticket? / ¿Tiene boleto de regreso?
Answer: "Yes, I'm flying back on [date]" — open your phone to show the ticket if asked. This is the single most important question — no return ticket can mean denied entry.

Answer: "About 500 dollars cash and credit cards." A rough number is fine. The officer may ask to see the cash or cards — be ready to show them immediately.
Have you been to Mexico before? / ¿Ha visitado México antes?
Answer: Answer truthfully — "Yes" or "No." If you've overstayed previously, expect extra scrutiny. First-timers usually get the full number of days requested: "No, this is my first time."
Key tip: Smile, stay calm, give short answers, don't over-explain. Officers have full discretion on the number of days granted — and can deny entry even with a valid Mexican visa or a US/Schengen visa exemption.
