Fontainebleau Miami — a beachfront legend that's part hotel, part nightlife

You've seen the Fontainebleau in movies and music videos — this is the real thing. A legendary Mid-Beach icon since 1954, with a huge pool complex, citywide-famous pool parties, the LIV nightclub on-site and several upscale restaurants. Real talk: it's as much a nightlife destination as a hotel, so if you want a quiet night's sleep this may not be it.

Our Full Review

The resort sits on Collins Avenue in Mid-Beach, halfway between South Beach and Bal Harbour, about a 10-15 minute drive down to South Beach. The headline is the enormous pool complex with multiple pools, cabanas and poolside bars, fronting a wide private beach. The location suits travellers who want both beach and a big, buzzing resort scene.

"Came down to the pool the first morning, music already on, crowd building — you instantly know this trip is for fun, not sleeping."

South Beach

It's a very large resort with several towers and thousands of rooms. Room types range from classic rooms in the Chateau building to ocean-view suites in the newer towers. Renovated rooms look modern and smart, but some guests note older-tower rooms vary in condition — request a renovated tower at booking to be safe.

The real draw is the atmosphere and amenities: multiple pools, the large Lapis Spa, several famous restaurants (including Hakkasan) and the LIV nightclub, one of America's best-known clubs. If you love a lively scene, poolside parties and not having to go far — it's all here in one place.

On value — rates start around $485/night, reasonable for an iconic beachfront resort at this level, especially next to the St. Regis. But understand you're paying for the scene and the location, not for quiet. If you're the party type it's great value; if you want serene relaxation, this price may not match what you get.

Art Deco Miami

Things to know: the resort is so large it can feel busy, check-in lines can be long in peak season, and pool/club noise can reach some rooms. Request a room away from the pool at booking if you want quiet, and remember the Miami Beach resort fee + valet are fairly pricey on top of the displayed rate.

Bottom line: the Fontainebleau is full-throttle Miami Beach — legend, giant pools, nightlife in the building. If you're here to have fun, socialise and want a resort that's a destination in itself, go for it. If you prioritise quiet or city sightseeing, there are better fits in our list.
